Elneny should have been sent off.............and I am an Arsenal
fan (a very sad one at the moment!).
God knows why him and Xhaka are playing mind...........they are
both liabilities

As a fellow Gooner, totally agree on all that.
The only reason Elneny stayed on the pitch was because we were
already down to 10 men, but totally idiotic from Elneny, just
like Xhaka and Pepe before.
Also have no idea how Scott needed VAR to decide on the Xhaka
red when he watched it from 5 yards away. Obviously the Burnley
player strangely falling to the floor after being grabbed by the
throat doesn't help, but you can't do that so had to be a red.
No idea why Xhaka needed to get so worked up or involved. ::)

I'll remember that the next time a team has 2 or more players
sent off.
File alongside: it's too early in the game for a booking; it
would be a free kick anywhere else on the pitch; Cup/Derby
rules.

Early cards
On a return to live football had the misfortune to watch Alan
Young last night at Portsmouth who was up to 7 yellow cards
before the players were warm. Throw ins retaken for a foot or
two, even if the retake gained a yard or two and were not
retaken.
Not a fan of Joey Barton or his team, but the referee was poor
albeit consistently poor (which I guess is better than erratic)
but I have no idea what the referee was on. In my assessing days
I would have been checking the guidelines for how low I could go
without spending days writing reports.

Assessors who base their marks on how much or how little work
they would have to do are possibly the reason we have officials
like Alan Young. ;)

My family are all qualified referees, some to better degrees
than others.
Alan Young was probably as bad as I have seen since I was doing
7-6-5 assessments and kids initial 6 games a decade or two ago.
I assume he either works in a County FA or has friends, based on
last night he would not be on League One. Hopefully just a bad
night, or an observer he felt he needed to impress but by doing
so made himself look foolish and killed the game which became
about him.
I really do try never to criticise an official, but he was
incredibly poor.
