Questionable caution?
DIR By: Seagull

Stuttgart player Silas Wamangituka was cautioned after slowly
walking the ball into the net for a goal in their 2-0 win
against Werder Bremen. I assume it was for "Unsporting
behaviour". I'll put my neck on the line and say I don't think
his actions constitute unsporting behaviour but I'd be
interested to hear what others think. You can view the incident
below.

The Werder player who confronted him after he scored was also
cautioned, was there some 'receptacles that women
carry for their purses and knick knacks' that caused the
cautions? [emoji6]

I've always wanted a player to get down on their knees and head
it in the goal in similar circumstances!

Taking the p*ss maybe but anything more, I don't think so! ???
Similarities perhaps with a player deliberately standing in an
offside position to waste time?

I would hope that the caution was for something after the goal
was scored that isn't shown on camera rather than for walking
the ball into the goal.
If it was for the goal itself the referee will be in serious
trouble. In that case the player committed an act of unsporting
behaviour whilst the ball was in play, meaning the offence
happened before the goal was scored, and therefore it should
have been an IDFK not a goal. I find it hard to comprehend that
a top level referee would make such a mistake though and feel
sure it was for something else.

Too be honest , it is dead and buried as we all loved and knew
it.
The Germans having as much trouble as we are by the looks of it
with poor refereeing..........perhaps they have a Mike Riley as
well..!

I wonder if we will ever see a yellow for the goalkeeping
equivalent - receiving a back pass with no opponents in sight
and making an opponent come all the way to him and then pick the
ball up just as they get close?

That would be a free kick against the keeper anyway and would be
most unlikely to happen I think.

I can recall, in the local league where I started, there was a
referee who would caution a player for being caught offside
several times by an offside trap. His reasoning was
'persistently infringing the laws of the game.' No matter what
anyone else said, he was convinced he was right in the letter of
the law.
