Martin Atkinson - Tottenham vs. Arsenal
DIR By: guest379

An embarrassment of a first-half from Martin Atkinson here.
After a good weekend for the officials he's having a mare
here....
Bellerin commits 3 foul throws, the first 2 go unpunished and
the 3rd one he's pulled up on - bizarre! That's just for
starters....
Hojbjerg with a clear obstruction on an Arsenal forward,
Atkinson plays a good advantage but no booking for the Dane
subsequently.
Xhaka commits 3 fouls on Kane, one of them cynical in the
extreme lobbying his body across as he was preparing to shoot,
bizarrely no yellow card for the Arsenal man on any occasion.
As usual Xhaka getting away with foul after foul after foul.
Lo Celso commits a nothing foul in midfield, it's barely a foul,
and gets a yellow card because Willian, as usual, goes down and
rolling around "in agony" clutching his leg to get him booked.
Then a FK for Arsenal for a "foul" by Lo Celso on the edge of
the area .... he CLEARLY wins. It wasn't even a difficult one.
Just as well for Martin that only a corner came from this...
Shocking stuff from Atkinson, really, really bad :(

I couldn't disagree more. I Think Atkinson has had a great game
so far. Not fussy and carded at the right times.

Aye, blame the officials when there are players all over the
field doing everything they can to 'con' the officials.
A competitive derby game which he has allowed to flow as much as
possible once the initial spate of early fouls by both teams had
been dealt with in a correct manner without going over the top
with issuiing cards ---I think that they call it common sense,
something which the authorities seem to be trying to eradicate
in their quest to make human officials into robots.
I do hope that Martin continues to be truly shocking, he may
still be a help in rescuinng the game from the downward spiral,
however, I think that he may well retire before it totally
becomes a non-contact sport.

His mistreatment in the way he handled Xhaka's fouls and Lo
Celso's were the definition of inconsistency.
He has however done better in the second-half, I will admit.

Not watching but you're wrong in law here.......
Firstly - no such thing as obstruction in law any more, hasn't
been for years.
Secondly, if an advantage is played from an attempt to deny a
promising attack then the offender is no longer cautioned so if
MA had cautioned he would have been wrong. (Law change this
season)
If you are going to berate officials it helps to know what
you're talking about.

Referees fail to punish time-wasting & keepers holding onto the
ball, that's in the rulebook! Just an example of the reverse of
what you're saying. Officials regularly aren't following the
rulebook! His inconsistency on Bellerin's foul throws for
example!
Hojbjerg obstructed the play aka he stopped a promising attack
was what I meant. Apologies my error on the rule change, it's a
ridiculous change, but not Atkinson's fault. A player could get
away with as many fouls as they liked if there were advantages
each and every time, crazy!

So Xhaka throwing his body across Kane's midriff to stop him
shooting on the edge of the area, one of the most cynical you
will see, and not getting a yellow card is common sense? What a
load of nonsense! It's a foul and a yellow card all day, every
day of any professional football match.

If you are going to criticise a referee you really, really,
should make sure that you know the law that you are criticising
them about, otherwise you make yourself look very silly indeed.
If you play advantage from a foul that stops a promising attack
you can no longer go back and caution for it and to do so would
be incorrect in law. The argument being that it didn't stop a
promising attack as the promising attack still happened because
of the advantage.
I thought Atkinson had a very good game, hardly noticed him to
be honest which is usually a good sign.
