Surely whether the ball went out for a throw-in is outside the
       VAR guidelines?

Does it not depend on whether it's clear and obvious?

It obviously wasn't clear and obvious because we are still
trying to work it out! ;D

In a game with VAR Assistant Referees know that if a goal is
scored their decision on offside or not will be "corrected" if
deemed incorrect. So it would seem the sensible thing for them
to do would be to give priority to checking to see if the ball
remains in play. Whether. as Whistleblower says, it would be
easy for them to tell when the ball is high is another matter
although if the BBC graphics are to be believed it was well over
       the line.

If it went over the head of Mr Moyes then surely the 4O would
have seen that it had gone out.
       Could they not have commented?

Mr Moyes, despite what he said, wasn't watching the ball as he
was stood clapping and encouraging his players further up the
       pitch.

True, but the reason he was clapping was because the ball had
gone out and hence a break in play for him to encourage his
       team.
