Peter Walton takes about balance - keeping going in case of a
goal which can then be checked. Sorry but players safety is far
more important than whether a goal is scored or not!

I raised this point several weeks ago, although more in relation
to a keeper being injured in similar circumstances. I was
advised that injuries are all part and parcel of the game and it
is better to get the offside decision correct through VAR if a
goal was scored.
I'll bet that Digne agrees with the flag not being raised.

But you have to try and find some balance between the two.
You can't say 'if a player's going to get injured flag but if
they're not and a goal is going to be scored don't flag' - even
though it's likely that people will argue for each depending on
what happens.
Perhaps when a player is clearly offside they could sometimes be
a bit quicker to flag but ultimately players will sometimes get
injured. That's just an unfortunate part of football.

Your last statement says it all because he was clearly offside
but was not flagged, however, had that been a game in any other
English league the flag would have gone up, referee would have
blown for the offside before the ball was even crossed and
Maguire would have had no need to put in the tackle.
In fact, if he had put in that tackle after the whistle had gone
lots of people would have been screaming red card as they did a
couple of weeks ago.
Is anybody really clear on the interpretation of TLOG where VAR
is involved? It gets more puzzling every week.

So blue line is for defender and red line is for attacker - both
go through upper arm of players so upper arm of striker is what
has been givne offside.

Everything about how bad this is, is encapsulated in that pic.
Under no "normal" circumstances would that be given as offside.
From the Championship down to supply league assessors notes
would read "tight onside/offside correctly judged"

I think it's also worth saying on this that it sounds like FIFA
are developing an 'instant' system to judge offside which will
come in within next two years and will automatically inform VAR
when a player is offside so there won't be the need for long
waits at least.

Sounds a bit like our current test and trace system, and look
where that's at. Then there'll be the excuse that 'bodies got in
the way and the system couldn't tell', as happened with goal
line technology on the PL earlier in the season. And of course
we won't be able to use technology from a Chinese firm, will we?
Thanks for the tip off Readingfan, I can't wait! ???

[emoji3] So all players are going to have all of their
'offsideable' extremities microchipped in order to provide the
'instant' technology similar to GLT?
Or are they going to have another human set of eyes in the box
to only deal with offsides in order to provide 'instant'
decisions, that will still rely on the human eye interpretation
of the lines? [emoji33]

I cannot comment about other nations but accuracy rates (pre
VAR) for assistants in England were always up around 98%+, from
Premier League down to National League.
We are now asking guys to question themselves, 2nd guess just in
case that decision is one of the less than 2%.
Show me any other team within football that achieves that level
of success within a facet of their game!!
Secondly - gone are the 'positive' non decisions (signalled by
scissor hands) as referees darent be wrong, but look indecisive
- must be "killing" the likes of Atkinson and Dean who built
their reputations on strong and usually accurate decision
making.

This morning's service from Alloway, besides starting with my
favourite "Highland Cathedral", offered evidence that a
latter-day Isaac Watts would have been a Crystal Palace
supporter, addressing Partick Bamford with the lines
"Sufficient is thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure."
