Sadly passed away after a long illness
One of the best players the country has produced.
Only 4 of the 1966 World Cup Final team remain.
       May he rest in peace.

Smashing player in the old school when players had to be able to
give and take and just get on with the game.
Superb in the 1966 World Cup and it was great to witness his
dancing along the touch line along with Bobby Moore after the
presentation, what a superb atmosphere at Wembley that day!
I had the pleasure of watching Nobby many times and always
admired his tenacity and his reading of the game. Sad thing is
that he would not have lasted five minutes in the modern game.
RIP Nobby and thanks for many good memories.

I had the pleasure of meeting Nobby a few years ago before his
illness diagnosis at an after dinner event and he was funny but
warm too. Spent time talking to people and taking photos. A
       lovely man! RIP

Very sad news indeed. As we watched the tributes last night Mrs
R commented what a pity it is that his kind of player has been
lost to the modern sanitised game. "He would have been
suspended most of the time" she said as we watched another
tackle fly in. "And how would today's players cope with those
pitches?" I don't always agree with her but I reckon she was
       spot on.

They showed a clip on the BBC News last night of Nobby executing
what would now be rated as a red card tackle on an opponent and,
although we didn't see the results, I doubt very much whether
there was any more than a bit of finger wagging by the referee,
       whoever that was!

I saw that too and remarked upon it. You couldn't even call it
a tackle, it was like something out of martial arts. I am glad
that we no longer see that sort of behaviour on a football
pitch. Similar ones were shown for Norman Hunter, and no doubt
will be for the likes of Ron Harris in due course. Maybe the
current game has gone too far the other way, but we never want
       to return to those days.
