Michael Oliver - Burnley vs. Spurs

Not quite sure where to start here. Barnes elbows Alderweireld
in the face and it's not even reviewed by VAR. For me it has to
be a yellow card minimum, I've seen players sent off for way
less! The Belgian stays down for just over 4 minutes getting
bandaged up by the medical team, yes I counted, coupled with
excess time-wasting from the home side, and somehow Mr Oliver
decides 3 minutes are correct. Truly baffling time-keeping, one
wonders how he lost a whole 2 minutes of a wretched game.
Has missed a couple of fouls on Doherty and Ndombele, plus
Brownhill booked after 1 minute for next to nothing challenge on
Ndombele.
A shocking half in what has been a simple game to officiate.
Awful game of football too...

Burnley seem to have suddenly decided to take their set pieces
quicker instead of playing for a dull 0-0. They might yet nick
a point here though with Spurs' defending...

Awful challenge there from Lamela, has to be at least a yellow
card and VAR review. Cannot understand this officiating and the
adaptation of VAR in this country by our "Select Group".

We won't even mention Son rolling around because he kicked an
opponents foot and got him booked or Lamela's challenge on
McNeill which didn't even merit a free kick and, in the modern
game, could have been seen as a RC with studs showing.
Yes, things are definitely getting worse and Spurs will have to
improve if they are going to win anything this season. 62%
possesssion and managed 9 shots.

Well Mourinho has just come out and praised Michael Oliver more
than he did any of his players. And he wasn't being sarcastic,
it was genuine praise, so I think you are way off the mark with
your criticism. Including with the Brownhill caution, yes it
was the first minute but it was a clear case of stopping a
promising attack so is a mandatory caution.

Maybe if Burnley go for games a bit more by playing some
football through the lines, they would be higher up the table.
Dreadful performance from both sides, one trying to suck the
life out of it as they do game-in, game out, and the other
lethargic and for once fortunate to nick an undeserved win.
The kick on Heung-Min Son at the end by Kevin Long was a little
bit nasty in how late it was, but a standard yellow card. Dyche
whinging and shouting at Oliver at the final whistle but I'm not
quite sure why....

For me there wasn't a great deal in it. I agree with 1st minute
of last is irrelevant for sure, we see too many officials not
give yellows because it's early in the game which is bad, but in
this case it was not enough for my opinion.

Did you really think that that was a promising attack with the
way Spurs played all night?

That's interesting - must be a first!
I wasn't too concerned when Oliver only gave the free kick for
the aerial challenge by Barnes. When 2 players jump like that,
it's difficult if not impossible to keep your arms by your side.
Personally, I felt it was sensible refereeing and I thought
Oliver was controlling a potentially tough game very well, but
was surprised Lamela wasn't penalised for that challenge near
the end with a YC. Both Taylor and Oliver have now been very
lenient with him in the space of a couple of weeks.

If you pull someone back and chop them down the skill level or
level of the game is irrelevant. If that was on Hackney Marshes
on a Sunday morning it would still be a caution as it was a
tactical foul, and notably the player had no complaints
whatsoever about it.
