Martin Atkinson: Man U v Chelsea

What on earth is VAR for? That holding by McGuire is blatantly
clear and obvious. It’s farcical.
Even the myopic Evra said it was a penalty.

Even Dale Johnson has come out against VAR.
edited out as we do not allow allegations of corruption on this

It's even more crazier considering VAR was Stuart Atwell and the
soft penalty he gave as a referee last weekend...

Cannot understand why Martin Atkinson was not advised to look at
the screen and then make a decision. I thought it was a penalty.
Outside of the penalty area free kick with no questions. VAR is
simply not being used correctly and once again is in disrepute.
Not VAR but the official manning it.

I was asked for my views on Stuart Attwell as VAR a few weeks
ago and said I couldn't think of too many poor decisions he'd
made as VAR - but now I'm thinking about it I'm struggling to
think of too many positive VAR interventions he's made and
wondering if he's just been 'lucky' to have low-key games as
VAR.
The best VARs need to intervene when required and in the last
two games at Old Trafford Attwell has failed to do that as VAR.

What about the non penalty award at Anfiels for a trip on berge
at 1-0? More clear cut than the maguire one.
2 years since Liverpool last conceded a penalty at home -
ridiculous!
Who were the last team to be awarded two penalties at Liverpool?

Tottenham got two penalties in early 2018 - Jon Moss was the
referee.

I think it's clear in general that the 'high bar' for VAR just
isn't working now. It probably made sense in some ways when VAR
was first introduced in PL because people were wary about there
suddenly being a flurry of stoppages and decisions changed and
the feel of the game completely changing but now people have
largely got used to VAR being something involved (whether they
like it or not) and 'Why wasn't VAR used?' tends to get asked a
lot more.

Just seen the highlights back and probably should have been a
pen for foul on aspilicueta. Interestingly there was also a
similar incident at the other end where maguire was being held
at a corner and yet no mention on here. Got to be looking for
consistency surely?

The penalty aside I thought Atkinson was his old self let the
game flow stayed in the background and cautioned when he needed
to
I think everyone perceives VAR as a infallible machine that will
correct the wrong decision by a referee when it is actually just
another referees opinion after viewing several replays of a
incident
Personally I think referees got far more big decisions and
decisions correct in general before VAR was introduced and that
when referees got them wrong it was accepted more because they
dont have the benefit of replays etc it was Human nature that
mistakes would be made but I cannot say the same for VAR because
of the numerous angles more decisions by the should be correct
but instead I think the opposite is happening.
