Really good game for Bankes and good to see Pawson (after
Tierney last week) getting a big 6 v big 6 game.
Really disappointing not to see Andy Madley refereeing a PL game
so far this season, or indeed Rob Jones. Nothing for England or
Hooper yet either. I do partly fear that having 19 officials
might lead to some not given many opportunities.

And yet we see the likes of Oliver and Atkinson on a game every

If my maths are right (which they are occasionally) there are
380 premier league games per season so that would work out at 20
games per referee. Okay, I wouldn't expect that to happen but
surely, barring injury or calamitous performances, there should
be no reason why 14 - 15 games at should be given to all
referees.

Your maths is perfect
Only issue is that the top 7 or 8 last year did around the 30
game mark and the next few did 25+ games - that could easily
amount to 11 or 12 refs covering a minimum of 270 games,
probably more like 300.

Two of the regulars are missing games this coming weekend
already though. Mike Dean only has a 4O appointment and Anthony
Taylor a VAR and 4O.
I would have thought Michael Oliver might have been a more
obvious one to rest after his trip to Israel. Instead he's 4O on
Saturday and in the middle at the Etihad on Sunday. Is Taylor
likely to be in Europe next week?

Taylor has the UEFA Super Cup on Thursday.

These appointments mean that all SG1 referees have had a VAR
appointment so far this season apart from Rob Jones, who I don't
think has ever been VAR on a competitive game (he wasn't one of
the SG2 officilas used last season.)
I believe Kavanagh has the most VAR appointments so far, at 3
games.
No SG2 referees have ben sued as VARs yet, presumably because
games are spread out across the weekend more.
