Bear in mind the only time I have watched cricket was when I got
freebies to Kent in the late 80's/early 90's and most of my
watching was done either from a sunbathing position by the beer
tent or a sunbathing position from the players bar... If I were
to watch a match where Graham Cowdrey is match referee would I
get to see him? Is he out on the pitch or field or whatever it's
called or are they the umpires?

He would go out on field for the toss about 35 minutes before
the scheduled start time. During the match he would be in the
pavilion or an office. His main job is to assess the umpires and
monitor the players discipline throughout the game. All cricket
grounds are still very accessible to the players/officials. If
you went you would see him no problem. I have seen him many
times at Glamorgan matches over the last couple of years.

Jeremy Lloyds and Jeff Evans potentially finish their county
careers with games at Birmingham and Gloucestershire
respectively that’s if they are not appointed to any of the
knockout games or first class final.
O’Shaughnessy and Middlebrook, Baldwin and Robinson, Lloyds and
Pollard, Evans and Wharf all have games with qualification
       riding on them.

Would it not be a wonderful and fitting gesture to appoint
Lloyds and Evans as 2 of the umpires for Finals Day, given their
length of service and the messy end to their careers, as well as
the fact they are both excellent umpires? This is an internal
event, not an international one, so surely we don’t need to have
       international umpires appointed, do we?
Or will the ECB go down it’s usual predictable and time-served
track and appoint a combination of international umpires - none
of whom I would suggest are any better, any worse than Lloyds
and Evans - with perhaps one of Mallender or Hartley thrown in
because Finals Day would not be Finals Day without the.
I am not holding my breath sadly.

Totally agree, for me the International umpires have already had
their fair share of quality games this summer so they should
reward the other umpires who have kept county cricket going
through this difficult time. Would be great to see Evans and
Lloyds appointed but at the the very least it should go to non
international umpires. Millns and Burns have umpired no games in
this years t20 blast group stage meanwhile Wharf and Saggers
have only done one each. What message would that send out to the
other umpires if they were appointed!!
