W E Wood was William E, according to the 1939 register where the
address-13 Barford Avenue, Bedford-agrees with the FL handbook
entry for 1945/6, before he moved to Luton. I believe he was
known as Bill, not surprisingly.

I was scratching my head on F T Adams of Addiscombe, Croydon,
who would have been a 'local' if I had been around in the 1940s
and whose surname was also the married name of my gran who lived
up the road in Norbury. I note that he is only listed in Upton's
for 1942/43 and he might have been a linesman who stepped up to
replace referees who were away on war service or someone who
missed out on a career as a FL ref because of the war. Either
way, I am afraid I cannot help on this or any of the others you
have listed, sorry John.

More digging over the weekend has more than halved the list
FYI - FT Adams was Frederick Thomas Adams, Croydon councillor,
vice chair of Parks Committee, died 1955 aged 52
