       Thanks for posting that, bmb.  Always interesting to hear from
       Collina although I don't think that particular interview takes
       us very far forward.  The interviewer looked scared to death of
       the great man so the questions were pretty bland.  I would have
       liked him to have been asked whether FIFA has studied the use of
       VAR in other sports which, on the face of it, seem to have made
       a far better job of it.

       The decisions in other sports are more black and white as far as
       the laws of those sports are concerned.
       FIFA, through IFAB, have messed around with TLOG and their
       interpretation in order to accommodate the use of VAR so that we
       are seeing different interpretation of the Laws at different
       levels of football. The offside decisions which are being
       dissected at the top level are bordering on ridiculous and doing
       nothing to aid the flow of games. If an offside is not obvious
       to the naked eye it should not be dissected as to whether a
       players big toe is actually offside. Who knows what constitutes
       handball these days ---it is different in every game.
       Footballl used to be a simple game and the Laws and their
       interpretation were reasonably easy to follow, even the offside
       Law was easier to follow, although it will always prompt debate
       whether VAR is used or not.
