Andrew Taylor of 24 William Street, Lower Ince, Wigan is
mentioned here :-

R Collinge of Sale presumably had a son or nephew on the FL too

Thank you
Taylor was a train driver - that and being a referee - what more
could a boy at that time want?
I have found about a dozen confirmed father/son or brothers so
far with a few more as possibilities

A good memory on PA matters as usual, Boris. F Collinge from
Rochdale was a FL ref from 1955 to 1960 which coincided with the
better known K A Collinge from Sale and Hale who refereed the
first ever League Cup Final (1st leg) in 1961 and retired a year
later.

I think I know of a few first names on that list:
H.Cartlidge was Harry
H.Berry was Herbert
C.Fletcher was Clifford
H.Hartley was Harry
H.W.Moore was Harold
I didn't have time to look thoroughly through them all in
detail, but there's a link to a page, where you might possibly
find more (or maybe correct any of my errors, if you notice any)

The Sports Argus printed some referees addresses at the start of
the 1929/30 season
eg: Mr W Phipps was listed as 24 Clive Street, Tantany Estate
(West Bromwich)
I don't know whether this helps to discover any more information
about him, including his first name?
Nowadays, we're lucky if we hear which county they're from!

If we have addresses, checking the 1921 census and the 1939
household register become possibilities, as well as the
electoral register or voter's list.
