The only way I can see mason or Scott getting the final is if
Arsenal get through against Man United. The other games are
really big games and they haven’t got enough big game
experience.
Edit: Mason used to be in the Bolton area I believe, so he must
still be around that area; Kavanagh still registered with
Manchester FA but is technically Lancashire. Tierney is Preston
I think?

League Cup and FA Cup in the same season? Not unprecedented-
Alan Wiley certainly did it- but unusual. Although Keith Hackett
seems pretty certain that Mason will get the FA Cup Final.
Wasn't the only reason Alan Wiley did the FA Cup Final in the
same year because Mike Dean was withdrawn, being felt to be too
close geographically to Liverpool?
Interestingly, are Kavanagh, Tierney and Mason all still based
in Greater Manchester although I'm not sure which local
association they are registered with.
Whether there will be a Manchester team in the Final remains to
be seen, and would the location of the referee still be a
consideration anyway? They all referee Manchester teams in the
PL, as does Taylor.
The postcode rule as we seemed to always refer to it as was
binned fairly recently, maybe in the last 2/3 seasons. If they
referee the clubs in the league then they can referee them in
the cup, that has always been the case.

Agree, the postcode is irrelevant now, purely down to any club
allegiances as opposed to where you live.

Pawson mason or Tierney for the showpiece final then?

Everything about this 1 August FA Cup final will be unusual! I
wouldn't have had Mason down as a strong contender a few months
ago - I was expecting Pawson - but now I'm inclined towards
Mason.

Most interesting RCG On the pitch Ken Baker always looked smart
but very stern and appeared to be something of a martinet
whereas Daniels basically looked a scruff and rather easy going.
Just shows that on pitch demeanour is often no guide to actual
personality. Canon Baker certainly had a fine reputation as a
dedicated parish clergyman.

I'd have Pawson as favourite but i'd have a saver on Scott. If
he or Mason are packing in at the end of the season it might be
an opportunity to see them off with a big game. Neither of them
are the youngest in SG1.
I believe Mr Baker was a detective inspector and then
became head of security at the NEC. I always thought his style
of refereeing suited these posts rather more than that of a man
of the cloth.
