It is fair to say that complaints about the competence and the
honesty of Soviet/Russian go back longer than I can remember, at
least to the 1950s, but it is rare that anything much comes of
them. In this case Mr Lapochkin has been appointed to referee
one of semi-finals of the Russian Cup, due to take place on
Sunday, so that he presumably remains in good standing. Ashot
Khachaturyants, who is Viktor Kassai's boss, has claimed that
the accusation of betting irregularities was regarded as a
malicious rumour and not even taken into consideration, though
he's a bit evasive about why the lie-detector test was thought
necessary. And if anyone is wondering about the elevation of Mr
Kassai's charges to the judicial bench, what Google Translate
evidently doesn't know is the same word is used in Russian for
'judge' and 'referee'.

He passed the lie detector test so he should remain in good
standing. Personally I think it is dreadful that he was
subjected to it in the first place but the flip side is that in
passing it he has more than laid to bed any doubts about his
honesty etc.
I know the official line was "some signals" - whatever that is
meant to mean! It did comes days after the altercation with
Tedesco, when he patted his cheek after getting a red card. The
test was taken either the day or maybe 2 days after Tedesco
received his 3 match ban (1 for the red & 2 for 'insult').
Tedesco evidently said something to him in German but no-one
knows what as Lapochkin only speaks English in addition to
Russian and therefore didn't understand.
*I say 'only' I don't mean that in a derogatory way, I admire
anyone who is bilingual (or multilingual) to competent levels,
my Hungarian is still primary school standard after 5 years!*

It's the same in Hungarian even though we have different words!
játékvezető is umpire/quizmaster/referee and bíró is judge!

'Some signals' is a common Russian phrase about information
received, used mainly when you want to be vague about the nature
and source of the information.
It's worth noting that refereeing is the least of the problems
affecting Russian football at the moment. Since the Premier
League season resumed, at least five teams have reported
outbreaks of Covid-19 among their staff, with various games
being postponed, cancelled or played under absurd conditions.
And Khimki (based just outside Moscow) have just announced that
for financial reasons they will be unable to accept their
promotion to the Premier League. It is not impossible that the
other promoted team, Rotor (Volgograd), will make the same
decision.
