Oh dear, the curse of Moss strikes again. A very debatable
penalty decision on Fernandes, even worse by VAR backing it up.
How is that more of a penalty than the push on the Bournemouth
game.

This one involves Manchester United, their THIRTEENTH penalty of
the league season. Truly staggering how they've decided that is
a penalty, Fernandes creates the contact, just as he did at
Tottenham the other week and most other weeks. Have officials
not cussed him out yet? Do they not have the bottle?

Fernandes does not instigate context every week. The majority of
the penalties United have had I don’t think anyone can say they
aren’t merited
Tonight a poor decision from a poor referee, is it clear and
obvious?? For me not even a penalty but that isn’t the players
fault if the referee is judging it like that!

Can totally understand why Moss gave it at full speed, but can't
understand how anyone can look at those replays and think that's
a penalty.
If anything, it is bordering on SFP by Fernandes for going studs
in on the defender. Completely accidental, but we've already
seen one red this week for a completely accidental SFP
challenge.

A great point, it's an accidental but similar incident to the
Nketiah one on Tuesday. But this is for Manchester United I
guess, that's my only rationale...

It never remotely occurred to me to think Fernandes should have
had a RC, but the penalty was a poor decision. No idea why
Scott didn't tell Moss to go to the monitor. Henry Winter on
twitter thought it an appalling decision by Moss & VAR.
A couple of days full of controversy. In the Arsenal v
Leicester game, Arteta wasn't alone in thinking Vardy should
also have seen Red. And last night, Oliver only sanctioned
Tarkowski of Burnley with a YC for another bad challenge and VAR
(Friend I think) didn't intervene. Again, Moyes complaint was
backed up by the likes of Hackett and Glenn Turner. The
inconsistencies in terms of what constitutes a RC and the action
or non-action of VAR are beyond parody.
Not saying they are influential but I see Keys and Andy Gray are
calling for Riley to step down.

A great point, it's an accidental but similar incident to the

VAR was never meant to be like this and what many of us felt
were initial teething troubles which would be quickly ironed out
seem to just keep happening. There's the usual silence from
those meant to be in charge but it is to be hoped that the
continuing problems are being dealt with so that the system
becomes what was originally intended and that is to assist
referees in achieving BETTER decision making rather than
creating more controversy. Or does nobody in authority really
care?
One change which I would make as soon as it could be put in
place would be to scrap the system of current members of the SG
acting as VAR assistants and introduce a panel of experienced
former officials, especially trained and whose VAR duties are
their sole responsibility. Oh and while they are about it find
someone to do the appointments of match officials who could
fathom out how to do it so that the same officials, on field and
VAR, didn't keep handling games involving the same clubs week in
and week out!
