Drinks Breaks !

Basic stuff part 2!
A Taylor West Ham v Wolves 1st half
There was just over two mins between him stopping for the drinks
break and restarting but only 1 minute additional time. That's
before any additional time should be added for other stoppages.
Is it really that hard with 5! officials there that someone can
time things properly.
I think it will become my new hobby timing drinks breaks!

2nd half, 2mins 10 secs drinks breaks, 3 subs, 2 goal
celebrations and only 3 minutes added on, 1 further
substitution during added time, full time whistle blown on 3
minutes!

S Attwell - Bournemouth v Palace
2 minute drinks break. 2 minutes added. However, numerous other
stoppages, 1 goal celebration (other goal part of drinks break),
there are very very few games when you don't have any stoppage
time. So I would say again at least 1 minute short.

P Tierney 1st half - Villa v Chelsea - Additional time played 3
mins! Actual drinks break 2.45. So with one goal and booking 1
player for time wasting, I would suggest still at least 1 minute
short.

This is precisely why either the VAR or fourth official (who’s
duties these days isn’t even to hold a numbers board for subs)
should be doing the independent timekeeping to make sure the
correct time is being played out.

Why not just stop the clock for the drinks break? Not hard for
clock in stadium to be stopped and tv coverage to do likewise.
That way added time is for match related incidents only.

If these highly paid referees cannot even do the simple stuff
like adding on time reasonably correctly, why should we have
much confidence in their other decisions?
They have consistently shown themselves unwilling or unable to
add on adequate stoppage time. Why ? I don't know. They seen to
want to get it over with a soon as they can!
Take the task away from them.

I said before it was introduced that I was worried the required
time wouldn't be added on and of course it hasn't been.

It's high time that the game had independent timekeepers at this
level. Too many referees (ie nearly all of them) rely on pure
guesswork. When did you last see a referee actually stop his
watch at a stoppage, let alone even look at it? It works in
rugby (although I wouldn't advocate adopting their idiotic
system of playing on after time is up until the ball goes dead)
so why not football?

Personally I really like the idea of playing on until the ball
goes dead, at least in rugby. I think it provides a sense of
drama and removes the issues I've seen in other sports where a
goal is scored a second after a buzzer goes and no one knows if
it counts or not. The thing in rugby is the clock isn't stopped
every time the ball goes dead so it's a reasonable way of
compensating for this time too because it's never going to be
accurate to the exact second.
