I remember too the Van Der Ende performance.
If i remember the British Press had stirred things up, saying
beforehand that Van Der Ende was likely to favour Italy because,
of all things, he liked pasta and Italian restaurants.
As already said, one of the best i can remember. Great hair
streak too, and a shoe in for any Catherine Cookson fans!

For me it was 1993 Kim Milton Nielsen when he refereed at the
World Youth Cup in Sydney.
On tv it was Jan 1994 Phil Don refereeing MUFC vs LFC
Both games were a masterclass

I though Clattenburg and his performance in the Chelsea V Spurs
game was a masterclass.

Are you joking?? He missed at least 4 if not more clear red
cards. He himself has admitted he was far too lenient! He let it
get out of control

Apologies to bring an old chat, but RTR is often my lunch break
sanctuary at the office, and having not been there and with no
football I've been catching up on a few months worth of posts -
but just had to comment on this one.
Though not in the flesh the best performance I saw from an
officiating team was the one led by Howard Webb for Italy v
Slovakia in World Cup 2010, there were a few incidents to deal
with, off the top of my head I remember I think the GK going
down looking for a sanction for an opponent and he immediately
got to the scene and ushered him up rather than looking for any
other action, a late goal that would have saved Italy correctly
ruled offside by about 6 inches and in my opinion it was this
performance that earned Howard and his team the final at the end
of the tournament
