Hard to say. I don't know the rate of testing in the UK, in
Hungary all the players/match officials and essential club staff
are being tested every 36-48 hours roughly, they have to have a
negative result from less than 36 hours previously to be allowed
to enter the grounds on match day. Our appointments are never
announced until the day before a match anyway so no effect on
that for us. A lot will depend on the timeframe they have set
between tests and maximum length of time prior to a match for a
negative resut.

With the teams starting to play friendly matches, which I
understand are officiated by club officials, does anyone know
what the plans are to get the officials up to match fitness.
Seems hard to believe that they're expected to hit the ground
running after 3 months without any competitive action - unless
we're just expecting that VAR will fix everything :)

Spare a thought for German 4th division team 1. FC Saarbrücken.
Having reached the German cup Semi Final play Bayer Leverkusen
tonight, having not seen each other for 94 days, let alone
trained! They are not even sure whether they will last the whole
match

League One has bitten the dust for the rest of the season.
Perhaps Kettle will get a play off game as his swansong unless
he remains for next season. 😳😳

I wonder whether they will go down the line of a reserve
assistant like in cup finals to support on the lines or board
duties.
With leagues one and two finished I’m sure a few NL guys would
be more than happy to be a standby just in case someone falls
ill at short notice.

A little later than usual but the Kettle will he or won't he
retire saga is back for another summer.
The League Two play offs involving Colchester, Exeter,
Northampton and Cheltenham will take place on the 18th, 22nd and
29th June with a Wembley final.
Currently his last match was on 7th March with a standard Kettle
display at Portman Road.

Somewhat strange piece in today's Times about spitting on the
pitch. When the season re-starts, referees have been advised not
to caution players who spit on the pitch 'in the interests of
consistency', but to warn them not to do it again. I find this
strange because I don't think I've ever seen a player cautioned
for spitting to the ground but clearly not in the direction of
other players or officials. Spitting at someone on the pitch on
the other hand is surely a red card offence every time, and
particularly in the present circumstances. I find the practise
of spitting vile and would support any measures to stamp it out,
whether it is directed at anybody else or not.

Just a thought on the subject of track and trace. There has been
a trial on the Isle of Wight which means, if he has been
involved, James Linington will probably be more aware than any
other refs of whether he has or has had the virus or not.
If clear, does that make him invaluable in the event of a number
of refs proving positive?

I think it would only make a difference if he had previously
tested positive and therefore had some immunity potentially. I
believe all the officials will be tested before each match like
the players so otherwise he's no different to anyone I presume.

That piece seems to tally with what you say - players haven't
previously been cautioned for spitting on the ground so they
don't want to introduce a caution mid-season but it's not so
advisable in the current health situation in particular.
Obviously spitting at someone would still be a red card.
