I think travel distance may be a factor in appointing referees.
As the current regulations stand, they would not be allowed to
stay overnight either before or after the match - so would need
to travel both ways on the same day. They should not be using
public transport (train) and would not be allowed to share a car
with somebody outside their household.
I don't think you will be seeing Oliver, Taylor or Dean in
London or the south coast the rest of this season. It would be
interesting to see the geographical spread of the referees and
what are their closest clubs. That will dictate a lot of the
appointments!

It seems VAR will still be run from Stockley Park so presumably
some officials will have to travel a fair way - I can't think of
enough southern based SG1 officials to cover Stockley Park and
games in London/South Coast. I guess they'll probably double up
VAR officials quite a few times with most games being played in
unique slots - e.g. on Saturday one VAR does the 12.30 and 17.30
games, another does the Saturday 16.00 and 20.00 games.
They'll have to work out a way for Newcastle to play down at
Bournemouth and Brighton, and for Southampton to play away to
Everton and Man Utd and so on, so you'd hope they'd have
suitable protocols for match officials to travel where
necessary. Otherwise we might end up with Simon Hooper on the FA
Cup Final! :o
Michael Oliver was due to referee Spurs V Man Utd and Mike Dean
was down for Bournemouth V Crystal Palace so I guess we'll find
out pretty quickly what the policy is.

I thought the post was referring to the players not travelling
together - obviously match officials would normally travel
separately as you say but players would normally travel by
plane/coach together, which i'm not sure can happen now.

I thought the post was referring to the players not travelling

the southern teams are gonna be pretty limited if that's the
case, there's only graham scott and simon hooper down south as
far as I know.

The thing for me is the total lack of competition integrity
here. How is it fair, and where is the integrity, of increasing
substitutions mid way through the season? We're ending with a
competition that never started, and that just isn't fair across
the board.

Newcastle to Bournemouth isn’t much further than London to
Durham. Perhaps they need to speak to Dominic Cummings about
travelling for 6 or 7 hours all in one day without any fuel or
comfort stop 😛
The thought of Hooper on the F A CUp Final is the stuff of
nightmares too 😱

Yes, I have visions of Mike Dean turning up ready changed at
AFCB (? where do they stand on changing facilities?) for a
7.45pm KO, and then driving back to the North West after the
game (? no hotels open?). At least it will be light at 4am. bmb
- could you possibly put a tent up in your garden or does that
constitute an overnight stay? ;D
