Just a thought, there are probably more people in the world who
don't give a damn about football than there are fanatics like us
lot on here.
Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not aching for the 2am alarm calls to
watch City in countless empty stadiums devoid of any emotion.
With the numbers of people still dying from this in the 500s, to
resume the PL season just so Liverpool can win it properly is
just morally reprehensible.
I do wonder if the same luxury would be afforded if it were say
Chelsea, or Manchester City, sitting pretty at the top of the
league.
I think Liverpool are the easiest part to solve of all this
because it's clear they'll win the title either way.
It's what you do about relegation and promotion and the European
places that is more complex and why the season should be
completed if it can be.
Scrap relegation. The current placings determine European spots,
subject to Man City's appeal hearing. Simple
...Or just play the rest of the season and have it decided that
way!

Watford, Burnley and Brighton have all apparently now been
affected by the virus (BBC), and this will affect the ability of
these clubs (and others?) to fulfill their remaining fixtures as
staff are required to go into quarantine. I suggest the
remainder of the season is scrapped. Liverpool can be confirmed
as worthy champions (as with Celtic in Scotland), with the other
places determined on a points-per-game basis, perhaps weighted
to take account of the fact that some clubs will have played
Liverpool and Man City twice, others only once. First three up
and last three down, with no playoffs, except in L2 where the
first four could be promoted to take account of Bury's demise
following promotion last season, Stevenage would be reprieved
and Barrow promoted. Any thoughts?

Let's leave the anti-Liverpool stuff at the door, we are
referees/ex referees and we are better than that... That goes
for all clubs, not just Liverpool, we are meant to be unbiased
remember...
IMO it has absolutely nothing to do with letting Liverpool win
the league properly and 99% to do with money. TV monies that
will have to be paid back, both by the clubs and the PL,
sponsorship money and a fair amount of taxes lost if it doesn't
continue. Any decision for the league to finish will be down to
TV contracts and money. There is also the small matter of
European competitions and who will qualify for those. Any
country not who has concluded the league, with clear places
earned (by points per game, playing the games or whatever other
options are open for them to decide) will not be included in
next seasons competitions, that is hell of a lot of revenue lost
for the clubs who would be there as well as the prestige etc.
There's also the small matter of relegation to be determined.
Not sure you can have no relegation whilst simultaneously having
a top 6 (or however many Euro places there are). Huge loss of
revenue for the 3 relegated clubs which has to be a priority
consideration. If they go down on their own merit (or lack
thereof!) then it's on them but to go down because someone has
flipped a coin and said unlucky lads off you go it's a
completely different matter.
Liverpool have earned the right to win the title this season,
they have been absolutely phenomenal. I don't support them as
you know but I believe it would be a travesty for them to have
the title taken away from them, they deserve it. They can try
and replicate and win it outright properly the next season we
have if the season concluded here & now but I really believe
that they deserve it, on merit.

There are also some clubs with players refusing to return to
training due to not wanting to place their families at risk.
Troy Deeney from Watford for one, who has a 5 month old baby boy
who has had/does suffer with breathing problems. Completely
understandable on his part & it's quite right, imo, that he puts
his baby 1st.
One of the only ways to really do it is maybe to quarantine the
players away from their families for the duration of getting the
games played. Harsh on them & their families but maybe a choice
they will have to make. There are thousands of police officers,
NHS staff and other key workers doing exactly that every day and
for a much longer time period.
In Hungary my club has given all the players the option of going
into isolation with just their teammates if they would prefer,
for the sake of their families. The club owns an apartment block
where the players all live so the players can move into empty
apartments if they chose to. I don't know about other clubs but
I expect they will all have a similar option. The referees and
AR's have all been moved into a hotel in Vecsés and placed in
isolation for the next 5/6 weeks away from their families. The
cost is being covered by the Federation and was adopted because
they do not wish to place any family members at risk. I think
all of the Federation staff, who are back at work, are also in
the hotel and testing is being done on them every 2-3 days. Not
sure what will happen if 1 of them tests positive mind!

I don't think yesterday's news is going to make any difference.
6 out of 748 is less than 1% and we know at least three of them
were non-playing staff so from the perspective of completing
fixtures it won't make much difference. I think the players who
have tested positive will need to quarantine for 7 days - such
small numbers are unlikely to really have any impact on a team's
ability to fulfil their fixtures. When do a team ever have a
fully fit squad to choose from? One or two players testing
positive will be regarded like one player having a hamstring
injury and another a shoulder injury. We're going to have small
numbers of positive tests across society for months - there were
a number of positive tests in German football but that still
returned at the weekend It's when/if the situation becomes more
severe or the transmission more widespread that it might have an
impact.
The Burnley assistant coach was asymptomatic. If football hadn't
returned then presumably he wouldn't have been tested and found
out he had the virus. I think there are many places in society
that carry more risk than football.

But it's not just the staff who have tested positive who will
need to quarantine if symptoms emerge but also all recent
contacts, and that for 14 days rather than 7. That's why
thousands of contact tracers are being appointed. If it were not
for that, I would agree with bmb and isolate players and staff
until the fixtures are completed.

From BBC report -
HTML https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52744883
'Players and staff who have tested positive will now
self-isolate for seven days.'
The rest of the team will not have to but will continue to be
tested.
This line is also striking - '"If it wasn't for the fact I had
gone back to training and had this test, then I'd never have
found out that I had the virus and I would just be getting on
with things as normal. That's obviously quite a strange
thought.'
For players picking the virus up in the wider community
returning to training and being tested could make it safer for
them and their families rather than increasing the risk.
I think the plan might be to have players stay overnight before
a game. That way, you know that everyone has been tested and not
been in contact with anyone else and you can be as confident as
you can that no one on the pitch has got the virus before the
players return to their family.
I think quarantining players in hotels to finish this season
could be viable but I suppose they want something that works for
the longer term and doing it for potentially the whole of next
season probably isn't so feasible.

I don't buy this thing that is is just so Liverpool can win it.
Germany have restarted, Spain have restarted training, Italy are
planning to complete the season.
If it can be done safely then why not? With the amount of
testing that everyone involved will have there will be less risk
playing a game of football than there will be going shopping at
your local Tesco.

I think that shows just how easily and quickly this awful virus

Hungary restart this weekend, just watched the last training
match. Scheduled to finish June 27th, Bulgaria are back from
June 6th - July 17th. Season 20/21 starts there on July 24th.
Latvia league back in training, Polish league due to start any
day now & Russia is back from June 21. Serbia are on their way
back as well. Not checked on Slovakia or Romania but suspect
they are in line with the rest of Eastern Europe. Bulgaria the
only ones that I know have a 100% firm date for next season to
start.
