As the live season comes back to life, I’ve been watching a few
of the retro games on sky, ranging from a superb Wiley
performance in 2003 at Arsenal, the usual and irritating
fussiness of Steve Bennett in Man City v Tottenham and tonight
the card shark from the Wirral (with a decent set of hair) in
       2006 for Chelsea v Man U.
I would say it’s been really good watching these games, only
slightly spoiled with the bile spewed out by Andy Gray most of
       the time.

Interesting to hear that in Germany the heart rate for referees
was much lower - I wonder how refereeing decisions will be
affected in the PL. Will there be more/fewer yellow cards? Will
VAR decisions be different? Will away teams get a higher
proportion of the decisions than previously?

Parliament voted unanimously yesterday to lift the state of
emergency in Hungary so the phased return to normality will be
stepped up. I hope it's not too soon but our figures there have
continued to fall and remain low. My family county (Baranya) has
had no cases now since May.
In footballing terms, it's still just a 10% capacity allowed for
games. Just 658 people watching the Budapest derby last night.
No date has been set yet for the start of next season, after
tonight's games we have have just 3 more rounds to go. They'll
be across this weekend coming and then the 24th and 27th June.
Since the fans were allowed back in, albeit in limited numbers,
the rates of dissent and play acting have gone back up and there
have been more yellow cards than during the games that were
       played behind closed doors.

It has been announced this evening that Barrow have been
promoted back to the Football League.

Kings Lynn and Wealdstone promoted from North and South but no
relegation from these leagues. Seems daft

Unless you're going to apply promotion/relegation right down to
the lowest division, then I guess you have to stop somewhere.
I think the FA control divisions below National League
North/South and they were asked to/have chosen not to apply
promotion/relegation there whereas the leagues above have voted
       for promotion to be maintained.

       Resurrecting this!
As the PL has re-started and indeed is nearly over, has anything
been said about the start of next season yet?
A lot of the mainland European domestic leagues have start dates
for 20/21 now, certainly in central and Eastern Europe anyway.
Looking at the variance between the dates of those yet to finish
this season and the wide range of dates agreed for next season
season to start, I do wonder how long it is going to take for
all of the leagues to get back into some sort of sync with each
other. There's normally only a couple of weeks with start and
end dates but that could end up as much as 6 weeks+ for the new
season. That obviously in turn affects season 21/22 and of
course doesn't even factor in if we do have a second wave of
this awful virus hit during autumn/winter.
