Mr G D Green.

Good evening all.
I don't normally post on this section
of the board, but someone I know through Social Media has sent
me a message and this intrigues me,
I went to a primary school in County Durham from 1964 to 1970
and our headmaster was a Mr Green.
This person says that Mr G D Green was at one time a Football
League referee. I know Mr Green lived in a village called Boldon
which is a few miles north of Sunderland and if indeed this is
true Mr Green would have refereed in the fifties possibly into
the sixties.
Apparently Mr Green either reffed or lined Brian Clough's
testimonial game at Sunderland back in 1967/68.
I went back to my old school as a volunteer in 1975 and 1976
helping a particular teacher of mine and Mr Green was still
headmaster then however that would be just before his retirement
from teaching.
If anyone can help me with this I would be grateful.
Stay safe and keep very well

Mr G D Green of "Grenfer", Sunderland Road, East Boldon appears
in the Football League yearbook list of linesmen for 61/2, 63/4
and 65/6, which are the only years for which I have copies in
the 60s. He was not there for 59/60 and had gone by 71/2. He
doesn't appear in "Uptons" which is the compilation of FL
referees for all years, so it looks as though he never made the
referees' list. I imagine this is your old headmaster and others
on here may be able to fill in the missing years. They may also
know what League he refereed on during this period-I imagine it
will have been the Central or Northern League.

Thank you so very much.
After five decades since leaving Junior School I was never
aware that Mr Green was involved in the refereeing industry.
Stay safe and keep very well.

G.D. Green was a Football League linesman from 1961 to 1967. He
was on the line for Brian Clough's Testimonial in October 1965 -
Kevin Howley was the referee.

Thank you so much.
Mr Green passed away many years ago now, but is fondly
remembered by myself.
