Nice shot of Martin Peters (Spurs captain) being introduced to
David Smith and his linesmen before the 1973 League Cup Final
against Norwich City. Peters is about to shake hands with the
senior linesman, John Thacker. The other linesman, J. Flye,
unfortunately has his back to the camera.

John E. Thacker of Scarborough (born 1926) in his final season

David Smith of Stonehouse, Gloucestershire was in fact employed
as a linesman with the Midlands Electricity Board. Except for
the likes of John Thacker in this Final, a League Referee
running the line, it was somewhat unusual for one of the top
referees to be a linesman at the same time. David was a very
good referee and, although not evident in this picture, another
who carried some surplus weight, this despite the exercise he
had shinning up and down poles!
Apologies to JC above for the 'dumb' rating. Quite
unintentional and I don't have any idea how I did it!
