Here's something to while away a bit of time while we are cooped
up. Sorry the questions are aimed at the rather distant past but
that reflects my age. Some will be easy, others may stretch you
a bit.
1.

2.
World Cup final?
3.
Finals?
4.
1960?
5.
Herbert Bamlett and Jimmy Jewell?
6.

8.
his elbows piston so that his clenched fists jab up and down
beside his chin. He is a picture of urgency: authority in a
state of tizzy”.
9.
final?
10.
“Best was looking right at me when he said, “You are a f****
disgrace”. Morgan was some distance away…
I said to Best “What did you say?”
He replied “I wasn’t talking to you”.
“Yes you were”, I said. “What’s your name”?
“Best”, he said.
….I ordered him off. He was so astonished that he sat down on
the pitch holding his head”.

Brilliant olddeagle, I was thinking on similar lines. I also
know 1-2 answers, no more. Based on experience of producing
quizzes on the old RTR, could I suggest that people with answers
hold fire posting them below or post them privately to you by
private message. That way, more people have time to scratch
their heads and gnash their teeth in frustration before you post
the definitive answers in a few days time when appropriate. Just
a thought and thanks for your efforts.
Edit - pity, I didn't get in first. BAFRA - any chance of you
taking out the content of your post for the moment and posting
your answers privately to olddeagle? Thanks.

I would lay claim to knowing 2 of the answers, with a chance of
a 3rd.
Great quiz

Well done folks so far, though nobody's got a perfect ten yet.
I'll leave it open for a few days to allow for googlingresearch!

I can answer just one, number nine, because I was there.
Obviously I am far too young for the rest!

I'll put you out of your misery on my quiz. Best answer was 8
out of ten. Several people went for Roger Kirkpatrick on no 8
which I agree it could well have been, but in fact it was
Maurice Fussey. On no 4 I suspect I should have said "unusual
and possibly unique", because with all the comings and goings
into and from the FL in recent years it is more likely to have
been done than before. Well done folks anyway.
And now to have a look at John T's fiendish looking effort...
1.

you on ref?. The incident was from Chelsea v Man Utd, 1971/2.
Best claimed he had not directed the remarks to Burtenshaw but
had merely said “F*** disgrace” as a comment on the booking of
his team mate Willie Morgan for dissent shortly beforehand. The
FA commission were not satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that
the words were directed at Burtenshaw and ruled that the sending
off was punishment enough without a fine and/or suspension as
well.
