       Mariani was just promoted to First Group without an EL GS match.
       Guida had some good appointments but he is not ready for WC
       level. Plus he is also a First Group and not Elite.

       can't imagine Italy without a WC referee. Don't forget that 2
       Italians are at FIFA (Collina) and UEFA (Rosetti).

       Yes, I was thinking about that UEFA/FIFA connection when I
       asked! I just hope they are fair and if Orsato pulls out at
       short notice before and there's no one else been prepared then
       they don't have a referee from Italy - as happened with England
       and Clattenburg.
