2022 World Cup Potential Referees List
By: Wollongong Ref Date: February 29, 2020, 10:36 pm

Not sure if this is already posted.

Not sure how accurate this list is.
If it is correct then the UEFA refs look fairly inexperienced
compared to the last 3 or 4 editions of the World Cup. If it is
correct then the referees are going to have a busy 2 years
       coming up.

Soon as I saw that list I was in agreement with the above post
regarding the inexperience amongst the UEFA ranks, Also
Treimanis Jovanic and Eckberg would be surprise inclusions

Looking down the list, I don’t see many names I recognise from
other confederations as well as the inexperienced UEFA list.
Means a lot of refs will attend their first World Cup!

I would imagine the Iranian Faghani will feature prominently
again; also the Gambian Gassama who I saw mucking up a game big
time as long ago as the 2012 Olympics.

Not sure he will be allowed to. He no longer officiates in Iran,
he joined the A league in Australia in September. Anyone else
who has moved countries has not been allowed to continue on the
FIFA list (Clatts & Gillett spring to mind) so I'd be surprised
if he was allowed to continue to represent Iran as a FIFA
       official.

       Does irmatov still referee?
It's four and a half years between the World Cups so I guess not
that surprising for there to be a lot of change. It's still
almost three years away too so a lot of experience can be built
       up in that time.
We are probably influenced by hindsight to some extent. Back in
2011, the likes of Proenca, Cakir, Brych, Rizolli, Mazic,
Kuipers, Eriksson hadn't refereed at a World Cup or Euros and
all were at the 2014 World Cup. Of course, Cakir/Rizolli did a
semi-final/final at their first World Cup as did Kassai/Webb at
       theirs in 2010.
Most of us probably weren't especially aware of the likes of
Pitana, Ricci and Geiger three years before the 2014 World Cup
       either.

No. He was appointed as Vice president or similar of the
Uzbekistan FA last summer. He's leading reforms there now.

The Iranian FA have maintained his as FIFA ref and he has taken
charge of internationals since he took A league games. I would
guess he may not be appointed to Australia's matches

Thanks. Difficult to comment too much on him because I only
really saw him every few years but he seemed another who peaked
very early on. Excellent at the 2010 World Cup and probably
unlucky not to do the final, but then it never quite seemed to
happen for him after in the major tournaments.

Feghani is representing Iran although living in Australia. He is
       being appointed to AFC games.
My be;lief is that he is a shoe-in to go.
Interestingly though at the recent AFC U23 tournament he did not
get any knockout games due to, I am led to believe,
       geo-political reasons
