It really is asking for criticism to have the referee and VAR
official both from Manchester officiating a Man Utd game.
Particularly when we see the outcome last night.

I have only seen the very briefest of highlights on Breakfast TV
this morning. How Maguire did not receive a red card, I really
don't know. Harry has claimed that he stuck out his leg to stop
the opponent from falling on him, but that imho is a load of
tosh. The movement of the leg into the groin was voluntary and
should have been punished accordingly. A yellow card in this
instance makes a mockery of VAR at a time when it already has
problems in being accepted on the PL. There has been talk of a
wrong use of VAR provoking problems on the terraces. I listened
to the last few minutes of the game on R5L. The United fans were
chortling 'V-A-R' whilst the Chelsea fans who stayed behind were
chorusing something less complimentary about VAR. We do not need
this. The VAR in this instance did not do his job correctly and
this must not be allowed to happen again.

Absolutely right. Without questioning in any way, the
integrity of either official, it does give substance to those
who might and put officials under unnecessary pressure. I
believe that appointments should be on the basis of geographical
neutrality, that the same officials should not be appointed to
matches involving the same teams too often and that account must
be taken of their level of competence and current form. These
days, it would sometimes appear that none of those criteria are
considered.

I don't have any issue with Taylor or Kavanagh doing Man Utd/Man
City games. Taylor, in particular, has done them for years. I
think Man Utd have lost the two games Kavanagh has refereed them
so far.

I am increasingly disappointed by certain correspondents,
including, at times, myself who seem content, if not keen, to
call into question the capability, integrity even competence of
officials often comparing them disparagingly with their
favourite official and attempting to justify this by amplifying
their own personal perception.
Given recent events, particularly in the media are we not
perpetuating behaviour shown to occasionally have tragic
outcomes.
Can we please try being nice to each other as requested by the
late Caroline Flack

Who’s questioning integrity, The Only Argument seems to be that
A ref from manchester shouldn’t be refereeing manchester games
as it puts added pressure on him. I Don’t Agree with the
argument, but it’s not one intented to question integrity. Most
of the comments are rightly criticising taylor for his poor
performance last night and other poor performances this season.
They’re all fair comments and no one is being nasty, why bring
caroline flack up. Your only really upset because it’s your mate
taylor being criticised if were being honest.

Geography is possibly the biggest red herring used on
appointnents. Referee A grows up in Town B supporting them as a
younger person, moves to City C and progesses in refereeing.
Which team should they avoid? Team B or Team C? Definitely Team
B
Unless referees are involved with academies within football
clubs I see no issue with appointing someone to their closest
club, since it is not their home team. (Just make sure your
son/daughter is not seen in a United shirt 😉)
And what happens if a ref moves during their career? Suddenly
its ok to ref Team C as they no longer live there but now they
cannot do Team D? Ridiculous

I heard Mark Clattenburg say that his son started supporting one
of the best teams for a bit (can't remember exactly who, might
have been Arsenal) and he had to be careful not to let him war
an Arsenal shirt in public in case he was photographed. I think
making judgements based on geography is often a bit superficial.
You can say it puts them under added pressure but how much does
it really?

So Son is sent off for flicking out at Rudiger who fell down
like he was shot warranted a red card, bizarrely. And yet
Maguire kicks and then stamps his boot into Batshuayi's
privates, blatantly an nastily, yet is given absolutely
nothing!!!
A really poor night for Taylor, got so many things wrong.
Chelsea can, for once, feel rightly aggrieved by his
incompetence and the VAR's awfulness.
