A MADLEY - Millwall v Fulham

A terrible start from Robathan not flagging for a clear offside
for Millwalls equaliser. That said, Hector barging into Madley
was not a good sight to see.

Shame as the Fulham goal was a great onside decision, and
Madley’s Decision making for the penalty and YC so far nailed
on.
Think the bigger problem is the breakdown in teamwork for the
Millwall goal. Robathan holds his ground, so obviously isn’t
sure on who last played it as opposed to thinking it’s clearly
inside. So you’d hope that Madley would get that part of the
decision right and in an ideal world Robathan wouldn’t need help
but he clearly does in this instance and he has at least two
Fulham players in the way of the touch.

I highlighted a potential issue a while back when SG1 officials
who frequently use VAR are deposited in the EFL, and that the
difference between the two would be a factor to consider. I
wonder if there is succinct change in mindset changing between
the two systems.
It was a rank bad decision, no mistake about that.

Such a "rank bad decision" that the studio pundit said something
along the lines of "it's taken us loads of views and we've had
to enlarge it up to that size to show it was wrong".
You should write for a tabloid newspaper the nonsense you type
on here

I'll take that glowing reference as a compliment!

I think that the referee has to help in this situation as it's
clear that the assistant is unsure. Maybe he thought that he'd
have the benefit of VAR, but forgot what league he was operating
in.

Had it been ruled out would there have been any/as nuch outcry?
No.
I thought there was an attacking touch and called offside at the
time

I've only just seen the highlights. I suspect that if VAR had
been available, they would still have been checking this one
today and not made a definitive decision. Who touched it on to
the scorer? An attacker or a defender? Who knows and I suspect
Andrew Madley decided to give the benefit of doubt to the
attacking team, which I don't have a problem with. Seriously, if
VAR had been available, it would have provided a definitive
answer, but would it have been correct? I certainly don't know.

Of course it would have been correct ---surely that is the whole
purpose of VAR ---to ensure that every decision is 100% correct,
even if it is not the referee's decision! I look forward to the
Italians introducing their challenge system! ;D
