On the BBC site too. If proven, I wonder what the sanctions, if
any, will be. Or will the PL simply close ranks and brush it
off?

Precious hardly does it justice. I'm thinking pots and kettles
here. When you consider so much of the stuff which is said to
referees during a match. So very often we hear of clubs
complaining that some referees are 'robotic' and you can't enjoy
a bit of banter with them. Only when it suits it appears. Dan
Gosling should have had the pleasure of playing a match when
John Key was refereeing; he would know all about banter
then...and in spades

Or Gordon Hill by all accounts! However I'm not sure I agree
that it was 'acceptable banter' to talk about AFCB's position in
the PL. What caused him to make these remarks, if indeed they
were made? Were they justified? No I don't think so. Leave it to
the opposition's fans to make remarks such as this. I think that
if the remarks are true, an apology should be issued and Jon and
AFCB should then move on. And as an afterthought, do we really
want remarks such as this from a Yorkshire based referee in a
game involving a Yorkshire club?

I'm saddened by this. Prior to this Jon has always had a good
relationship with our club and was always welcomed warmly by
players/coaches & fans alike. Maybe he overstepped because of
that, not realising, or intending to overstep, if true of
course. Only those on the pitch know what was said & it's now up
to the authorities to determine if lines were crossed. It's not
like AFCB to complain though, Eddie is known to be respectful &
rarely mentions referees post match. He's not one who has a
reputation for starting every post match interview with a 'yeah
but the ref...' even when dreadful decisions have gone against
us.

Shame they aren’t launching an investigation into how such a
poor referee continues to operate at this level!

Are the conversations between officials now recorded as a matter
of course? I know they weren't when Mark Clattenburg had the
situation with Chelsea in 2012 but audio was released from
Michael Oliver in the 2018 FA Cup final so you'd hope they now
are.

Footballers are delicate flowers. I am always surprised and
gratified by how quickly they come to my defence when they hear
an opponent saying something even slightly disagreeable to me
when I am on the pitch with phrases like "he can't speak to you
like that ref". ;)

All their conversation are recorded so no point speculating
because all they had to do is listen to recording from start to
finish then act appropriately.
But guess what! If any of the players said something out "out of
line", they will get done too.
