Regardless of whether the decisions were right or not, managers
simply cannot accuse referees of lying and not expect to be
charged by the FA. To suggest that a referee is anything but
honest is as serious as it gets short of physical violence.

Yes, I think I might have scored that one. Ronnie Rosenthal in

Unless the referee was lying.
Referees are a cross-section of society. They get things wrong,
they get things right. I'm sure on occasions a referee has said
something expedient that he has known not to be true. It
happens. The holier than thou approach that referees are above
doing anything like that always amuses me. They're human beings.
When backed into a corner they may not always say the right
thing.

His first cardless League match for nigh on 2 years.
The last season he had two consecutive cardless matches was
2006/7, so long odds on a repeat for me on Tuesday.

Nothing too insightful and certainly nothing we didn't know
already.
A poor match played between two poor teams in poor weather.
Southend understandably so, under a transfer embargo, wracked
with injuries, they gave a debut to the 10th academy product to
have been called up this season. I'm not sure what Gillingham's
excuse was.
I can't recall a team of officials led by Kettle ever being the
best of the three on show before, but I think they just about
managed it - mainly thanks to Alasdair Ross lining particularly
well in front of me. I was therefore a good distance away from
Ipswich official Cooper - just the way I like it.
How Ogilvie was spared a yellow card for bringing down the
Southend striker who'd got goal side of him at pace was the
biggest Kettle mystery of an otherwise okay-ish first half. The
second half his decision making became more random and
inconsistent and cards started to appear. He even showed a
yellow to one of the Southend coaches whilst ignoring the
standard and continual abuse from Rayner and Evans.
So not his worst, not his best. Perhaps he can throw a joint
leaving party with Andy Woolmer.

Absolutely agree. However if you accuse anyone, in any walk of
life, of lying you had better be able to produce evidence to
back it up or you might find yourself in deep water with greater
authorities than the FA (if such a thing can be imagined).
Otherwise there are more appropriate words that can be used.

Now, now that comment is quite unwarranted. Hasn't another
thread already established that holding up the numbers board is
something Young does exceptionally well. Thither his career
beckons hopefully. ;)
