Agreed. But surprised you didn’t add the foul on Firmino in the
first half that was a clear penalty and possible red card.
Equally, a good argument for a back pass in the first half, when
Robertson passed back to Allison.

Yes, all three - the two I mention and the only one you referred

Perhaps my description of Sterling's challenge as "deep orange"
was a bit weak?? Hackett's in no doubt it should have been a
straight Red!
I wonder what Dermot will make of it.
Hackett also offers the suggestion that VAR Hooper was making
the proverbial "cup of tea" to miss the 2 penalty shouts at
Liverpool.

This from my friend who was at the Palace game:
Several poor decisions in addition to those highlighted on MOTD,
but how on earth could he rush to produce a red for Ward and
issue no card at all for the Baldock challenge on Zaha? Lucky
there was VAR so he could see the error of his ways. Never in a
million years was that a sending off offence. Whereas it feels
as if he bottled the earlier decision as it would have been a
second yellow.
Another tick for VAR it seems.

It did occur to me whether Sterling was genuinely concerned for
the welfare of his opponent or feared what colour card might be
coming his way.
Players stretching or lunging forward like that at pace will
always create a potential problem if they miss the ball and get
the man. Personally, I felt it was more than just an easy
yellow.

How Hooper has maintained his SG1 status on pure ability is
baffling. Perhaps the tea ladies at Stockley Park could do a
better job than some of the rubbish we’ve seen this weekend.

For me Pawson is extremely weak he is very easily swayed by
players and also by their reactions

To be honest, I don't think there was a huge difference between
the Sterling incident and the one with Aubemeyang the other
week, that was upgraded to a RC after Paul Tierney had gone to
look at the monitor. I wonder if Mike Dean would have changed
his decision had he seen the incident rather than leaving it to
the VAR (who was unlikely to overrule)?

To me it seemed as he was taking the advice of the AR, Richard
West, who had a good view of the incident.
To anyone who thinks Pawson is extremely weak: watch the Ajax -
PAOK game Champions League qualifier.
On a different note: I am sure a large number of people here
won't agree, but the more I read this forum, the more I"m
getting the impression that, apart from the language, it is not
all that different from what one gets on Twitter. Constant
criticism of referees, sometimes for good reason, sometimes for
no better reason than the poster likes / doesn't like the
referee in question. Judgements based on looks and impressions
(e.g. "he looks uninterested"). One or two favourites who can do
no wrong, and if they do, that is part of their "personality".
Well, my impression is that there are too many people on here
who are deeply envious of the referees they criticise. I don't
mean the criticism when they have a bad game, that is only fair.
But all too often a kind of jealousy mixed with contempt comes
through. The posters on here should be better than that.
