'Inside No 9'

'Inside No 9' is a TV programme on BBC2 tomorrow (Monday) night
at 10pm.
According to the TV magazine, "No 9 is a football shirt; the
setting, a dressing room on the tense final day of the season.
David Morrissey is Martin, the straight arrow referee about to
retire; assistants Phil (Ralf Little), Oggy (Steve Pemberton)
and Brendan (Reece Shearsmith) are less likely to play by the
rules. Power play and latent violence ensue in an all-male
environment".
Please don't tell bmb but the picture which accompanies the
article shows three of them in gorgeous y****w shirts, with DM
with an expression on his face which suggests that he has just
been told that Mr Riley is in the VAR booth.
Eric Armistead lives on....? ;D
Should be worth a watch!

Dark humour, violence and a bit OTT to say the least as Martin's
last game is abandoned following a lover's tiff between Martin
and United's star forward resulting in the forward being given a
red card in the dressing room at half time for assaulting an AR.
A 'bung' on a throw in involving an AR, a four times taken
penalty to even things up and a brawl also feature, so more
Corrie than OT! I liked the bit when there was reminiscing after
the game about the good old days of Courtney and Hackett and
refs always wore black! ;D

Well, certainly among the most bizarre dramas about football
I've ever seen as one would expect from the 'Inside No 9'
franchise but quite enjoyable in a dark way. I think the
production team should have had some better technical advice as
to match officials protocol, ie the officials all arrive wearing
identical blue suits not grotty tracksuits. Of the characters
the one who was quite frankly the most believable was the AR
played by Ralf Little. He certainly did remind me of one or two
current practitioners; no names no packdrill of course ;)

They do turn up in tracksuits now, certainly SG1 anyway,
although I would hope not grotty.

Do they really? How appalling. Certainly I have been many, many
times with Match Officials in Championship and Divisions 1 and 2
and they always travel and arrive arrive in regulation blue
suit, blue shirt and tie and spend time together in a Lounge
before going down to the changing room and changing into
sporting gear; equally applies to FA Cup ties ( which have
featured SG1 officials ) where I have been as a guest. How
strange that SG1/Premier League should be different

Particularly when those of us who referee non league and
counties football who are expected to be in nothing but a suit
and tie!

I've only ever seen Andre & any others in his team, in the
regulation blue blazer, shirt & tie when travelling to the
games. Never once seen him in a tracksuit, grotty or otherwise,
up to and including recently.

That's from last season, but I certainly know that SG2 officials
don't just turn up in tracksuits, so I doubt whether SG1 do.
Nice to see Kenny Hibbitt in the picture, though.

Is that at Wembley? Probably different rules in FA Cup games.
Bobby Madley posted on Facebook that SG1 referees wear tracksuit
to games so that is what I was going on.
Edit: Read the caption and saw it was at Bournemouth, no idea
then, strange that an ex-SG1 would publicly post that they wear
tracksuits. I did a 4th official to Dermot Gallagher in a
Premier League Reserve game years ago and he definitely turned
up in a track suit as well, and that was at a professional
ground.
