Walsall v Doncaster Rovers
DIR By: ATurner
Date: September 16, 2018, 1:14 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
After watching Walsall for 40 plus years I thought I had some
seen all of the most awful referees that I could until
yesterday.
Enter Antony Coggins who gave the worst (Edited by moderator)I
have had the displeasure to watch.Everytime a Doncaster player
was touched down he went and a foul was given, when a Walsall
player was fouled no foul and play on,He gave a penalty to
Doncaster for handball when the Walsall player quite clearly was
pushed in the back but oh no Mr Coggins didnt see that. When our
No 16 was hacked down on the wing no foul and a goal kick to
Doncaster - even the Doncaster players were laughing at that
one.
He constantly failed to punish the theatrics from Doncaster Nos
7 and 9 who went down at the touch of a feather and then when
our manager tried to get the ball off their No 7 who was holding
on to it to stop a throw in being taken he was shown the yellow
card and,yes youve guessed it,no action against the No 7.There
were a lot of other incidents that I could comment on but I
would be here all night.

This is the first time we have ever had Mr Coggins and I hope it
is a bloody long time until we get him again.
Before anybody says that this is sour grapes Doncaster were the
better side and deserved to win the game but they were very ably
assisted in doing so by such an incompetent display.

Please be more careful when posting, I have had to remove large
parts of your post and I can assure you I don’t like doing so,
however questioning the integrity of any referee is not
acceptable on this board , please refrain from doing so in
future.

There was I thinking that a rate the ref website was about
rating a referee’s performance- silly me !
I have given an honest assessment of a referee - if you choose
to delete various bits that’s up to you.

You are free to discuss the referees performance be that good ,
bad or indifferent, you are NOT free to question the referees
integrity simple as that . Any further help you may need don’t
hesitate to pm me .

I haven't seen Mr Coggins since his elevation to the FL or
watched the highlights of this particular game. His promotion
was a surprise to me, as he seemed to get some big calls wrong
in his NL days.

Sounds like Doncaster still think they are managed by Ferguson!

Re. the Ferguson comment- you couldn't be more wrong. Last
season I complained on here that Ferguson's teams were not
"streetwise" enough and a fan of Peterborough, his former club,
agreed with me. The change in mindset is very noticeable.
As for Mr Coggins I thought he was a weak referee who had little
control over a difficult game to handle. The penalty was a
decision I thought he got right and the Walsall manager accepted
it was a penalty. I remarked just before half time that he
looked like a trainee teacher thrown in at the deep end with a
difficult class of 14 year olds and no supervisor present. He
was lucky that the interval came when it did as tempers cooled
down a little. Before that, one mistimed tackle would have led
to a brawl.
He will have to improve in what is his second season or he'll be
back on the National League next year.

I think opposing supporters might disagree with you about
Ferguson and Doncaster, and Peterborough before that.
I know what I saw four times last season; maybe it was a
coincidence.

To clarify, if we think a referee's performance is less than
even-handed are we allowed to say so ?
Coggins has looked either incompetent or out of his depth or
both when I've seen him. However, I haven't yet had occasion to
question his impartiality.
