Most Premier League clubs were expected to do exactly that over
Christmas.

And unless their game at Blackpool has been moved, Tranmere
might have to do it this week.

I imagine he will be in the crowd to see his beloved Rovers (and
Lee Mason) in action before heading to the Heathrow bunker for
Monday night duties ;D

Not if you saw him Shrewsbury v Rotherham. I've very seldom seen
a referee put less effort into a game, can't even say if he has
a sprint and wouldn't recognise him as he never got out wide
enough to be seen. He failed to caution for two blatant trips
to prevent breakaways and turned his back nm play while the
keeper was kicking from hand, allowing the forward to foul him
with impunity. I would love to see the observer's report. Very
surprised as I understand he is from the North East where they
generally produce far better.

I had my first viewing of Marc Edwards last Saturday (Doncaster
v Coventry). He didn't do much wrong, but I thought he was
rather fussy and gave a lot of soft free-kicks (to both sides).
On balance though, I prefer seeing some of the younger referees
rather than some of the rather uninterested-looking old lags we
tend to get at Donny.
Incidentally we had his wife, Helen, on the line at the previous
home game. I wonder if they have officiated together. Some years
ago I recall a game (at Chesterfield, IIRC) where Sian Massey
and Rob Ellis (as they then were) were the assistants. (I don't
know if they were an item then).

Hooper probably the most experienced in not having VAR being
used given his sporadic PL games....
