Mike Dean, 500 up!

Fascinating piece and quiz on Mike Dean on the BBC Football
website as he prepares to referee his 500th PL game tomorrow at
Arsenal. I remembered Tranmere but not much else!
Hope you have a great day tomorrow Mike on what is a 'first' for
the PL and an achievement that is unlikely to be matched, at
least in the near future.

A great achievement for Mike Dean! Up there with the very best
referees in the PL era.
Martin Atkinson has done 397 PL games I believe and Andre
Marriner 323. I'm not sure if they'll quite get there - Atkinson
would probably need to do at least three more full seasons and
even more for Marriner.
Michael Oliver is on 250 after almost 10 years - he's young
enough to get there if he continues refereeing in the PL until a
reasonable age and doesn't move on early like
Clattenburg/Webb/Poll.

Looking at SoccerBase, it would appear to be Leicester v
Southampton on 9th Sept 2000

Good to see it suggested that Dean has no imminent plans to
retire. I think him and Michael Oliver have been the best
referees this season.

I think it's quite poignant that Mike Dean will blow the whistle
to start his 500th game at the same time that Darren England
will be starting his very 1st Premier League game!
