Whilst i agree regarding mr young who i have not yet seen have a
decent match, Messrs kettle and Breakspear have been fine the
last few times ive seen them, far from the very poor rating you
attribute to them.

Have you seen Kettle officiate when he was in his "prime" of
ruining games as a spectacle in the last decade?
Many contributors on here have witnessed his wayward maverick
tendencies, coupled with games where he completely ruined games
as a spectacle for the paying customers.
I will admit he has had good games in the past, but the games
which have been adversely affected by him have been done so in a
spectacular fashion.

Even more puzzling is why he was given such a high profile ( For
Division 1 ) top of the table clash at Ipswich towards the end
of last year. Just about the most senior match which could be
awarded to a NL referee and one in which he amply displayed his
complete inability to officiate at anything remotely like a
level of basic competence.

I don't find it puzzling at all. As Chief Executive Officer of
Bedfordshire FA, he is one of the plethora of FA cronies that
have found their way onto the Football League lists of Referees
and Assistant Referees, even outnumbering teachers !
Oh for the days of butchers (especially), bakers and candlestick
makers !

After having a look I agree that the call has come from his AR.
It's a foul, he was pushed in the back. The reaction of Phillips
when the penalty was awarded (to me) showed that he knew he got
busted. The flare up from the players was the sanction of a red
card. The question: If attacker was not pushed by Phillips did
they have a clear header on goal? Answer: Yes.
It may have been a 'soft' push, but it prevented a potential
goal scoring opportunity.
