Daniel Siebert (GER) and Robert Madden (SCO) with unexpected
UCL-debuts. Especially Daniel Siebert, a newly promoted referee
to First Group already with CL appointment... Both will be
observed by RefCom members.
Taylor with bigger teams than Oliver this time.

Big matches for Taylor, Bastien, Zwayer and Hategan. It's good
to see mr Rosetti giving chances to everyone.

Worried about Hategan in such a big game. Great game for Taylor.
Congrats to Bobby, don't know how old he is and whether he can
make the step up to elite group, but nice to see his good
European performances being rewarded. Thought it was only a
matter of time before Siebert got a game. He seems to be the
next big thing coming out of Germany and already done some of
the big clashes. Hope it goes well for him at Anfield!

Probably not worth a separate General Discussion thread, but I
thought Mazic and team were fine last night at Old Trafford.
Yellow cards seemed spot on and the BT commentator even had the
decency to admit that he was wrong to question one of the United
yellow cards after it was replayed from a different angle.
Offsides and foul detection were generally good as well. At one
point early in the 2nd half, I thought we were going to have a
rare CL sight of a change of referee as the commentator spoke of
Mazic feeling his back and engaging in conversation with an AAR,
but nothing came of it and maybe it was something to do with the
comms equipment rather than his back. All in all, a good evening
imo for two out of the three teams on the pitch, a pity about
the third team ???

Good luck to Bobby Madden and team tonight, he gets a hard time
at Fir Park but he is one of the best referees Scotland has and
deserves his opportunity.

Would you say Edy that Rosetti is going to be having a clear out
of some of the dross in the elite group fairly quickly given the
new officials that have been used. Or is it because of age
related elite officials past 45 that are still in the top group?

No-one yet. Mazic, Kuipers, Rocchi and Mallenco are 45+. It is
said that the first 3 will retire in December and the last one
on May. That would open 4 spots.
I believe that we may see a couple of demotions. Kralovec is in
a difficult spot and I believe that Karasev and Sidiropoulos
haven't convinced the committee completely.
So, if we add those, we end up with 7 spots. Time to bring fresh
blood, I would say.

It's always very interesting and informative to read edy's take
on senior European refereeing. How things change about so
quickly. It's not long ago that Karasev was being widely tipped
as the next big thing. Marciniak seems to have had a torrid time
of things lately as well but I note edy doesn't include him as
among those at risk.
Kuipers in particular will leave big boots to fill and Rocchi
was no slouch either. I never particularly was a fan of Mazic
and Mallenco but they also will leave a great gap in experience
and so Rosetti is wise to start 'blooding' some new Elite
referees quickly because, as I repeat ad nauseam, there is no
substitute for experience.
