The big hitters are out in force, still question marks on
Marciniak who needs to up his game after an indifferent past few
months. Could he be in danger of his elite status?

No, he's not only Elite but the top of it and I don't think that
after one UEFA game with crucial mistake and not so good but
also not catastrophic World Cup anyone can be in danger of being
demoted. In addition, he already handled the UEFA Super Cup, so
the powers that be are very satisfied with his performances.

Normal appointments.
Marciniak gets an interesting match since there were 2 straight
RC's at the first leg. Let's see how challenging the 2nd leg
will be.
Skomina goes to Kiyv 3 months later than it should be..... ;)

I am always very interested to read the views of those who
clearly are very much in tune with European refereeing; a
subject where my knowledge is pretty thin. May I ask our
distinguished European posters who they consider is now
generally regarded a the top referee in Europe? i would have
said Kuipers with Skomina and Mazic close behind and Turpin
coming up fast on the rails. But I am open to correction.

It's always a little tricky to predict what the UEFA Referee
Committee thinks about certain referees. As a result we can only
assume who they consider as the top official. IMO, Kuipers and
Brych seem to be no 1-2 with little difference between them. I
would add Skomina and Mazic as 3-4 (even though the Serbian
shouldn't be too high). After them, Turpin is pushed a lot but
he definitely deserves it but I can't tell that he is no5. More
likely Marciniak is there.
As for those in danger: Karasev, Sidiropoulos and Kralovec
should be ranked at the bottom of the merit table.

Most interesting edy; thank you very much. Because it was
generally reckoned, that Brych had a poor World Cup Finals 2018,
I thought his status might have fallen a bit. Not very long ago,
the Russian Karosev was been very highly tipped for the future.
Perhaps his star has fallen somewhat.
As regarding England, I think this next season is going to be a
crucial one for Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor to see if they
can break into the very cream of the Elite. Personally I cannot
see Pawson achieving that distinction. What with the demise of
Bobby Madley, who was clearly seen as the next bright hope by
the English FA/PGMOL, I suspect the next best bet with be
Kavanagh, though clearly he has a long way to go yet if he is
ever to climb up the UEFA/FIFA rankings.

The real top at the moment:
Brych, Çakır, Kuipers, Marciniak, Mateu Lahoz, Maić,
Orsato, Rocchi, Skomina, Turpin
Rather safe pairs of hand but not the highest level of
man-management. Still appointed to quite big games though
Collum, Hațegan, Karasov, Undiano Mallenco
Top referees in next years
Bastien, Gil Manzano, Makkelie, Oliver, Zwayer
Rather not considered as real elite at the moment
Aytekin, Kassai, Královec, Sidirópoulos, Soares Dias, Taylor
The ones for the future from First Category
Ağayev, Ekberg, Gözübüyük, Jovanović, Kabakov, Kovács,
Kruliak, Massa, Siebert, Stieler, Treimanis, Vinčič

I think that the powers that be push Pawson at the moment
especially since his promotion to the First Group. He is getting
quite a few significant matches domestically.
He will get his chances in European level but it's up to him to
convince and become Elite.
It would be interesting as how will UEFA treat Oliver. After the
Real - Juve match last year this season will be crucial for his
development.
