Old Refs - First Names

Thanks to this website (and the old tapatalk site) I have been
able to glean lots of information about referees of the past.
I am in the process of trying to update match data, including
referees, into my Burnley FC match database (see link below)

Although I already have a name for over 80% of past matches
(well over 4500, out of around 5600), there are several where I
don't yet have the first name of the referee, and I wondered if
any of the very knowledgeable posters on this forum would be
able to help to fill in any of the gaps - starting with this
list of post war referees, mainly from the 1940s & 1950s (see
attached image)
Many thanks in advance
[Edit - explanatory note: the year ranges relate to my match
database, and some/all of these referees would have been active
over a longer period of time]

I can't see why, unless your device stops shortlinks for some

I'd love to know how to set up a database like that for my team
(Rochdale).

It's all done from a couple of Excel spreadsheets initially, in
terms of hosting the data (well, they're actually in Google
Sheets now), and then I've pulled the data into Tableau Public,
which is a free data visualisation tool (much better than
spreadsheets for organising and displaying the information)

Welcome to RTR and thanks for this fascinating insight into
Burnley FC matches over the years.
I'm afraid I cannot be of much help, being a southerner and only
interested in football matters since the 1960s. I note though
that our Bradford PA correspondent Boris10 (a mine of
information on Northern refs in the 1950s) referred to Harry
Haworth of Blackburn on RTR in Jan 2015, so one to knock off the
list. And if Boris is out there, perhaps he can help with some
other names as well.
I have had a check of the very good Chelsea and Liverpool
archive pages which list refs for their games over the years,
but neither are of any help here.
One name I can confirm - Allan Gunn who refereed Palace v
Burnley on 11th May 1979, one of the greatest nights in Palace's
history. And no doubt there will be a number of Burnley fans out
there who will remember when the great George Courtney came to
Turf Moor in the 1980s, and when he left, Burnley were still a
FL club...just. How times have changed!

Always good to see these kinds of records being compiled. First
names of referees from before the 1960s are hard to find but I
can assist with two: J Cook was Jack Cook & J Houston was Jimmy
Houston.

Thank you for your reply.
I have done a quick search on

which I have used as
a source to discover details of many past referees, and this has
helped to corroborate Harry Howarth, so thanks again for that.
I have also seen the Chelsea and Liverpool websites, and have
used these, and many others, to help fill in many of the gaps
already.
