Anthony Taylor TOT v CHE

Well, I don’t really know how to describe this but let’s give it
a go.
Ball over the top from Chelsea, Alonso chasing it, Spurs goalie
comes out, jumps and tries to play it with his feet (the ball is
over 6 foot in the air). Goalie misses the ball (which is around
12 yards) and WWE style takes out Alonso out in the area.
Mr Taylor awards a free kick to....... Spurs.
VAR [probably in disbelief] overturns to give Chelsea a penalty.
Goalie receives a yellow card?!

Should have been a red card in my opinion. How he has decided a
free out is beyond me... In his last two games, the Manchester
derby and today, he has been saved by VAR.

If it is a foul it surely has to be red for Serious Foul Play-
what exactly has he given the yellow for??

VAR having a blinding game today. Paul Tierney I believe. Son
kicking out at Rudiger with Taylor giving nothing. Decision
correctly overturned.

Now two VAR interventions,
PK correct and I agree with yellow card only reckless for me but
had the referee given red VAR should have supported.
RC for VC against Son 100% correct
Two calls Anthony Taylor should have gotten correct in real
time. He's had quite a number of VAR interventions in both the
PL and Europe this season, as I said in another thread UEFA view
him as England's* number 1 but incidents like this can't help
that reputation
** Edited as I originally said our number 1, as an Irishman I
cannot claim Mr.Taylor as a compatriot! Been spending too much
time on here ;)

Initial reaction on BBC website was that one angle suggests
Alonso handled the ball and if that was the view Mr Taylor had,
then decision understandable. YC correct imho as no contact was
made by keeper.
Second incident, difficult in real time but Son after falling
over then moves his leg stiffly in an upright position which
replays clearly show, which again imho is unnatural - vc, red
card.

Can someone explain the almost penalty free kick?
Why was it not given as offside?

One of the nuances of VAR protocol. Had it been inside the
penalty area the decision would have been offside, but because
the check was for free kick or penalty once the decision was
free kick they can't look at the offside. Daft I know, but
that's how it is.
