Although I agree with part of what you say I do not believe that
anyone but the hardcore fans think these games are either
important or showpiece. Purely money making exercises, stroking
egos and pockets of sponsors.
Liverpool fans will be mad if some how the squad suffer for
their trip to the desert and their league form tails off (i dont
think it will happen but it could)

I think they are showpiece but unimportant and agree with what
RCG writes about the purpose of such a match.

Liverpool didn’t want to go to Qatar but FIFA threatened
draconian punishment if they withdrew. If a club is forced to do
this the organisers should appoint appropriately qualified
officials. In Yokohama last time Liverpool were forced to play
in this the refereeing was appalling.

I agree except that I don't see it as an attempt to play the
ball. He is nowhere near it and couldn't possibly get to it
from that angle without fouling Salah.

Not a game that was officiated very well at all in my opinion.
He was almost like a competition winner who couldn't believe his
luck. Agree that the controversial was outside the box but how
he/they came to the decision that it wasn't even a foul astounds
me. Liverpool could, for once, have claimed to have been
justifiable victims if they didn't end up winning the game.
