The substitution rule..............

How do others see this rule being applied and enforced whereby
the hooked player has to leave by the nearest exit possible ?
One of our players Aiden McGeady was subbed today as a tactical
rather than injury change and was close to the right wing
touchline than the left where the dugouts are and Mr Kettle
didn't seem to be bothered however I must be honest every game I
have been to this season I cannot remember any referee taking
any action whatsoever when the hooked player takes the longest
route possible.
Has this quietly been swept under the carpet ?

Wow, if you've got to look to waste time against Southend,
you've got problems !
Funnily enough I did see it applied today by the estimable Rob
Whitton. I thought the assistant nearly flagged him for offside
as he was walking back to the dugouts on the far side !

I don't know about in England but in Hungary one player who
decided to leave via the tech area instead of the nearest point
- directly opposite the tech area was given a yellow card about
the time he reached the centre circle for time wasting. Funnily
enough he stopped walking slowly and applauding the fans,
shaking everyone else's hand etc & sprinted the rest of the way!
The only game they got away with it was the 1 game Vad has
refereed this season. Rest of them they have all left at the
nearest point & it's been enforced.

Aguero did it in our game yesterday and Lee Mason tried to tell
him to go off at the nearest point. You didn't need to be a lip
reader to see what Aguero said in return, and in typical Lee
Mason fashion nothing was done.

Other than that was Kettle any good?

Quite surprising given he was quick to book Sterling for a foul
and Ederson for time-wasting, when Saints players got away with
similar transgressions without sanction.

Other than that was Kettle any good?
Depends what you describe as "good" , but in Mr Kettle's case
it was a normal performance by his standards.He must have
something on someone in the refereeing hierarchy to be still
doing League One and two fixtures, but in fairness I guess it
was probably quite an easy game to ref with nothing at all
contentious to deal with.

It certainly isn't being applied consistently, although I
remember seeing a clip of one player getting a second yellow
card for failing to leave at the nearest point. Can't remember
which level/country it was though!
Referees also don't seem to be applying the dropped ball
procedure when it hits them correctly, with most stopping the
ball every time it hits them regardless of where it goes after
that.

This is Lee Mason though. He's about as useful as a chocolate
fireguard.
