Jarred Gillet - Barnsley v Bristol City

A good performance from Jarred Gillet tonight in a very decent
game between Barnsley and Bristol City.
Spotted the shirt pull that led to the free kick for the first
goal, could have gotten away with the yellow card for it, but an
       understandable decision.
Kept a firm lid on it, but I felt that Luke Thomas was a tad
lucky to see just a yellow for his kick out. There was a lunge
in the same incident that went unpunished but not sure Jarred
would have had a good view.
He was wearing a FIFA Referee Badge, which I presume he holds
still from his time refereeing in Australia.

Not sure how it works but I think that he maintains his FIFA
status until the end of the year. Alireza Faghani from Iran who
is now officiating in the A-League still wears his badge and is
still officiating in Asian Qualifiers as an Iranian official.

It feels like it's becoming more and more common for officials
to move to different countries (and why not? Players do it after
all and there are various reasons, whether dictated by
professional advancement or personal circumstances, that can
       contribute to it.)
I don't think it should automatically mean the end of one's
       international career.

Both Gillett and Feghani are FIFA listed referees. They are
nominated to FIFA who either accept the nomination for 12
months. Thee referee as are all FIFA referees are entitled to
wear their FIFA badge during that time. Interestingly Feghani
did not wear his in his first game in Australia. AFC will not
want to lose one of their best refs before they have to.

So what happens at the end of the year? Will Faghani and Gillett
       come off the FIFA list?
I thought Faghani did well at the last World Cup and you'd have
thought he would be a strong contender for the next World Cup if
he was still on the FIFA list.
Obviously it depends on the level the referee is performing at
but, rather like Clattenburg, it seems a crazy system to lose
good officials just because they happen to move abroad for
       whatever reason.

It’d be up to his new Association to nominate him surely?

We need all the FIFA officials we can get! If we were looking to
the likes of Hooper to fill the great void we have then it's a
       crisis.

My understanding is to be a FIFA referee you need to be
officiating in your countries top league. Therefore, unless he
gets a promotion mid-season to the EPL he would not be given a
       white badge in January 2020.

Another reason why the abject “Select Group” system that
replaced the perfectly serviceable old One National List is not
       fit for purpose
