Ref watch - sky sports news - Monday 28th October

Absolutely disgraceful comment by Stephen Warnock just now: “I
don’t know who was in the VAR, but he obviously had a bet on the
       game”
Whilst Sue Smith is very good on it, I don’t know why they
insist on having ex professionals in this segment.

Have just watched te program for the first time, and have to say
if that's the best contribution Dermot Gallagher can make, I
       probably shan't bother again.
If I heard correctly, he defended the decision by VAR to
disallow the Arsenal goal, repeating that the VAR should be
respected for taking his time until he was sure. It was the
Presenter (is that Sue Smith?) and other 2 guests (don't know
who they were) who kept asking 'was it clear and obvious
though', which he deigned not to answer. He agreed with the VAR
decision to award the penalty against Everton and also that the
incident with Richarlison did not warrant a penalty. In fact,
I'm not sure he disagreed with any of the VAR decisions. What
puzzled me was that he didn't seem to acknowledge the 'clear and
obvious' threshold for overturning decisions while not accepting
       the bar had been lowered.
Mike Dean rightly praised for his intervention for the red card
       at Southampton.

Dermot Gallagher just seems too scared to criticize fellow refs.
Whatever you think of the likes of Halsey, Hackett, Clattenburg.
At least they have the guts to say when things are wrong.

I may owe Gallagher a slight apology - he may have agreed that
the first United penalty decision by VAR at Norwich was wrong.
But even the United manager said it wasn't a penalty!

You are right though. The likes of Hackett, Halsey and
Clattenburg are more likely to give a straightforward opinion
even if it's critical, as does Hackett in today's DT. Some
don't approve of former referees being critical of today's
officials. Personally, I don't have a problem as long as the
criticism is based on fact and is constructive, and they are
also prepared to give praise when appropriate. Better than
defending referees at all costs or avoiding comment on
       controversial incidents.

On a separate note, United have now been awarded 6 penalties in
just 10 league games. Am wondering if that a record at this
stage of a season, would anyone care to inform....?

IIRC I remember reading somewhere that Blackburn had 8 penalties
awarded by the middle of November in 06-07 season but certainly
a lot, even by united leaders standards. Apart from the first
one yesterday which wasn’t, they could have had a few more over
the course of the season as well so far!

I suspect Palace could beat that from a few years back!
