It's not like Ivan Bebek lost control on the pitch or conducted
himself in an inappropriate manner either. We have seen
situations before where a referee has been too inexperienced or
out of his depth & this was not one of them. He showed by his
handling of the game that he was more than up to the task and
his dealing with the complaints of abuse was exemplary. The
comments are in very poor taste and I agree very disappointing.
Clive Tyldesley should know better.

A quote: There is now a huge void in the governance of Bulgarian
football - with no national manager, no president of the
football association, and no executive committee in position to
run the domestic or international game.
Arrests are up to 16 now, which is one positive step, hopefully
they will all be banned from football for life at the very least
along with being given criminal records, if they don't already
have them.
UEFA have to do more than the paulty fine & a couple of games
behind closed doors as that 'punishment' clearly is not working.

I thought it might just have been something that he didn't quite
express right (which can sometimes happen in a live broadcast)
but he tweeted similar before -

It doesn't really make sense. Does he think Michael Oliver and
Anthony Taylor shouldn't be appointed ot games where there might
be racism because of what happened at Hartlepool a few weeks
ago?

A game abandoned in the FA Cup today because of racism...
My point isn't to make comparisons regarding the exact extent
but to suggest that someone shouldn't be appointed to referee a
game of football because of where they happen to come from and
societal issues that might have occurred there seems very odd to
me.

Not at all surprised though. It's time UEFA realised that the
only way to stamp this out is to get tough, particularly with
repeat offenders like Bulgaria, and expel them from future
competitions for a significant period. Fines are quite
meaningless.

The only real punishment is the fine and the suspended ban, the
match that will have an empty stadium was already going to be
partially empty anyway from a previous similar misdemeanour!
It should have been as well as, not instead of.
Absolutely astounding.

Obviously only closing part of the ground taught them so much
about how unacceptable their previous similar conduct was, like
move the ultras into the family section for starters so perhaps
UEFA could just ban any away teams from playing any non white
players in Bulgaria, just so they don't upset the poor local
natives! Why not go the whole hog eh...

Absolute garbage punishment IMO. It just shows how incompetent
and clueless the heads of UEFA are at dealing with very very
serious misdemeanours like the disgusting racist abuse dished
out to the English players.
The only sanction that should have been issued was to sling
Bulgaria out of the competition in disgrace.
