I don't know but presumably it would be marked down as a key
match error if it was felt he'd got the penalty decision wrong.
Having given the penalty though, the referee was obviously
working from the perspective that it was one so he wouldn't wish
to get the red card decision wrong to compensate for the penalty
perhaps being incorrect.

Well of course not, he wouldn't think it was incorrect as he's
just given it.

I think there was a small tap on the ankle which caused the
player to fall, so for me it’s a penalty and red card

This is similar to something I tried to explain to a club in
their boardroom on Saturday, in that they need to stop thinking
about intent when their players commit fouls. They had picked
up 6 of 9 cautions in the game, 3 for stopping a promising
attack, and they were bemoaning that they were minor fouls and
not worthy of cautions. Yes, but they denied a promising attack
I would say. But he didn't mean to do it and it was only a
minor foul they would reply. Trying to make them see that even
if it was indeed totally accidental, if you foul a player that
is moving into a promising position that is a mandatory caution
proved to be impossible in the end.
DOGSO rather than SPA here, but the same principles apply. If
he caught him and that trips the opponent, and I think he did,
it doesn't matter how accidental or minor the contact was, a red
card for DOGSO has to follow.

Berardi's red card quite rightly rescinded. Such a bad decision
by the official. Be interesting to see what his next appointment
is!!!

Now been stated by the panel that because there was contact the
Millwall player will not be cited. Which video did they view?
Long live diving.

If they believe there was contact then I'm surprised Leeds won
the appeal. I know that not every piece of contact means it's a
foul but if they believe there was contact, can they
conclusively say that no foul was committed and therefore the
referee's original decision was wrong?
Whilst I'm not fully convinced that it was a foul, I think I
would have upheld the red card because I think there is enough
doubt that it can't be said the decision to give a foul was
conclusively wrong. As discussed, if giving the foul I think you
have to give a red card.

Personally I don't believe there was any contract at all, but
even if there was minimal contact I'm fascinated to know where
you saw a deliberate foul and therefore decide its a red card?
I could have sworn accidental fouls that deny a goalscoring
opportunity were now to be cautioned.
I certainly didn't see any "holding, pulling or pushing, not
playing the ball, serious foul play, violent conduct or
deliberate handball."
