Ben Toner - MK Dons vs AFC Wimbledon

As a MK Dons season tickey holder, I should really write alot
more reviews, but I enjoy reading everyone elses more, than
writing my own.
So here it goes, MK Dons vs AFC Wimbledon. A grudge match
apparently, picked for Sky Coverage. This game certainly had a
feel that it felt alot more to the fans than the players, with
regards to the history of the two clubs, which you can
understand.
Onto Mr Toner. Nothing really happened, well nothing I can
remember anyway, which is a good thing. Having read reviews on
Mr Toner on here previously, I was a little bit dubious about
his appointment. But, he controlled the game well, you can only
referee what is in front of you, had a smile on his face, and
seemed ti have a good rapport with the players. No major
incidents for him to deal with either.
Overall, I will quite happily have Mr Toner back at Stadium MK
in the future

Good to hear a positive report of Ben Toner, a referee who I
have always liked and believe has the potential to go higher.

Surprised you were dubious about his appointment, as the reviews
on here have generally been most complimentary. In fact, I can
only recall one contributor who has been overly negative re Ben
Toner

I can't remember too much about the game but I posted this
towards the end of last season:

frustrating both sets of players and fans alike. He doesn't
inspire confidence. The general consensus amongst both sets of
fans was that the red card was the only thing he did right!

Always good to see positive reports though... ;)

Safe pair of hands, with potential to referee higher up the
ladder.

I'm ambivalent about Mr Toner, having seen him twice last
season. A very good non-interventionist approach to Rovers game
with Cheltenham, but blowing for the slightest of contact and an
inconsistent approach to carding fouls in the trip to Mansfield.

I saw him a few years back in the Conference and I thought he
had the makings of a very decent referee.

Having had a truly awful game at Gillingham, early in his first
season, I was encouraged to see some positive feedback.
He paid his first visit to Portman Road last Saturday, I can
honestly say I have rarely seen a referee exude so little
authority.

He had a good game at Gresty Road yesterday where he replaced
Ross Joyce for Crewe v Exeter, see appointments thread.

If I were to choose someone to referee a football match then I
would pick Toner over Joyce every time. Some may say that is
damning with faint praise but nevertheless I hold to the
opinion.
