I remember him getting sent off(!) in a friendly against Deal at
the beginning of last year.
Here's what they thought of him at Dover. Comments from forum
and twitter!
"Yeah we’ll see. Some Ebbsfleet fans did think he was a bit of a
show pony at times, but I guess we’ll be able to judge for
ourselves soon enough when the real competitive stuff starts as
this league is as tough as it comes"
"Sorry MRP, disagree with you on that one. Martin looked like a
prize pillock last night. Clearly didn’t like being tackled by a
“lesser player”, strutted around the pitch like he owned it.
Then loses his head. There was one bad-ish tackle on him before
the incident from Chapman, who isn’t a dirty player whatsoever.
If that was Wilkinson who was sent off, then yeah, his age and
inexperience could be blamed. It wasn’t. It was our most
experienced outfield player. If I’m the manager of an opponent,
I’m telling my side to go out and target him with little fouls,
and that will hurt much more in league games. Also, if the fouls
had been ott up until then, then surely our manager would’ve had
something to say. He was as quiet as a mouse on the touch line.
I do agree however that the ref should’ve told Hess to have a
word with his captain to calm him down, because we all knew he
had the needle about being on the same pitch as part-time
players, never mind being tackled by them. I think everybody in
the ground apart from the ref could see what was coming.
The Deal lad, Kane Smith was the best player on the pitch up
until he fancied himself as a bare knuckle boxer."
"Martin got caught by the Deal number 10 earlier in the half.
Late challenge but nothing much to it, but Martin wasn’t amused
by it. Instead of doing what a good captain on the day and
experienced pro should do, he waited until he could return with
interest and put in a pretty horrendous revenge tackle. Deal’s
captain then looked like he chinned him. Overall Martin played
like he thought Deal were beneath him and looked like the
typical ex Premier league player who wants everybody to respect
him, peacocking around the pitch, but actually giving a
performance not too dissimilar to Lee Spiller.
As for the game, Deal we’re the better side, but it’s early days
obviously."
"This guy? Wore Number 11. Captain. Took all the free kicks.
Took all the corners. It was his ball. Loved a step over. Didn’t
pass. Played for Man Utd once. Shockingly poor player. No wonder
he never made it. All about him. Rubbish."
I hope Ben knows what he's signed up ! :o

Not good reading that Phil. I'm sure a few players will wind
him up. I assume he's on a season's contract.

Yes I agree Phil, I can't remember in previous seasons this
happening so much. All very quiet over the Black side ;D

So, another one goes to the Bay! :o
What is it with them? I thought that club had financial
problems! I know Faversham have got a wealthy backer and he's
chucking money around, like confetti, to buy the SCEFL title but
Herne Bay!?[emoji848]

It's certainly a crazy pre-season. A few mangers will be
collecting their P45's before Xmas if their teams don't perform.
