Down Memory Lane

Whilst trawling the web, I found this old picture of Deal
against(I believe) the Rams. The guy, 2nd from left, is Dave
Coles, who played for the Rams and having "googled"him, found
that his last season playing for the Rams was the 97/98 season.
Deal have got red numbers on their shirts and they didn't change
them to green until the Vase season, so I know this is a pretty
old photo!
So,how good's your memory John?
Did they always play the local derbys over Christmas and New
Year? From the shadows cast, it looks a sunny day. Was that
early season, or could that have beeen a sunny Boxing Day
game?[emoji848]
Looks a pretty healthy crowd(as local derbys should be)under
that old stand they used to have there. When I first started
going there, back in '80, I used to go in there, as it kept you
out of the weather and created a good atmosphere with the people
under that low roof. I nicknamed it "The Bus Shelter", as that
is what it reminded me of!
Shame it was pulled down[emoji852]

[/quote]Hi Phil, now that's a good question. To be honest I
can't remember the Rams playing in those shirts, I did blow up
the pic to try and see the badge, but can't make it out.
The rams played various teams at Xmas/Boxing day depending on
which league they were in. The old days I can remember going
through the old Charles Road entrance.
I did find a site showing teams in the old Kent League which
showed Deal higher than the Rams or MFC in the league. I will
try and find that link.
I travelled all around Kent watching the Rams, I did have
programmes for each match, not sure where they are now though.
Football is not your usual viewing on the web Phil, did your
wife catch you? The 3 little dots at the top right hand of the
screen gets you into your viewing history ;D

I was talking to my mate Paul about this and he told me the Deal
No10 was a chap called Joe Brayne, who left Deal at the end of
'96, so it must be that season or earlier(although NOT that
early that you suggested! ;)
As far as "Viewing History" goes, I've got my computer to delete
it, whenever I switch it off ![emoji6]

online.
What other teams in team's in Deal's league play in Red? Tun
Wells?
Not sure what else to try.
I'm pleased your history is deleted ;D

Hi Phil did you find out who the team in Red was? I need to go
50 50, then ask the audience, phone a friend and then pass ;D
Stay safe.

Phone a friend?
You aint got no mates[emoji6]
The jury's still out at the moment. We've found out who the
sponsors were , looking at Deals' shirts (Afyon Kebab) and from
that, we're asking if anyone can remember what year that was!
As for other teams that play in red, The Wells and Beckenham do.

Thanks to my mates Paul and Pete, (who are both ardent programme
collectors),trawling through their collections of Deals'
programmes through the 90s, they were able to identify the
season this game was played. From the sponsors name on the
shirt,( who only did one year), they found out this game was
played on the 18th Feb '95. Score was 2-2., with a crowd of
200+.
Paul, in fact, has the same photo(which appeared in the East
Kent Mercury), as well as the programme.
He even went to the game!
Happy days ;D
